Following the launch of Jacques Houdek's song, My Friend, he said; "We gave the song life today – it is an inexplicable feeling of joy and pride, especially when you know that you will represent your country at Eurovision. My team and I worked on the creation of this song for ten months, and I am overwhelmed with happiness that this song of encouragement, hope, friendship and love can be shared with the audience, to whom I am extremely grateful for all of the support, their participation in the #beMyfriend campaign, and all of the wonderful feedback that I have already received about the instrumental version if the song. May this song be a guiding star for everyone, a song that will bring us together, spread friendship and love, celebrate diversity, give us support in tough times, but also be a song that celebrates every new day, because every new day truly is a miracle".

Premiere of "My Friend" for Croatia

Jacques Houdek's song for the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest, My Friend, will be premiered on Croatian Radio’s Channel 2 programme The World of Discography on Thursday 2nd March. The entire production team will also be presented to the audience during the popular show represented by Zlatko Turkalj.

On the eve of the official premiere of Croatia’s Eurovision song on The World of Discography, Jacques isn’t hiding his excitement and his desire for the song’s message to reach the hearts of the audience:

"It’s hard for me to describe how excited I am for the premiere of the song My Friend. I have been living for this for the past ten months, all of my artistic capabilities have been directed towards writing this song and I can barely wait for listeners to let it into their hearts. Music is what I am, it’s my calling, my essence but that purest of emotions multiplies when you share it, and I’m happiest when it becomes ours – when I feel that the song has become a connection between the audience and myself. I would like to thank everyone for their wonderful reactions to the instrumental version of the song so far, as well as for their response to the #beMyfriend campaign. I believe that the audience will recognise the message of the song and accept it as their own, and that it will take a special place in the hearts of listeners," said Jacques Houdek.

Host Zlatko Turkalj said; "Croatian Radio’s Channel 2 (HRT – HR 2) has served as the first stage for many performers and their first exposure to audiences, but it is also a daily reminder of Croatia’s rich rock and pop heritage. We’re especially happy to find out tomorrow on The World of Discography what Jacques and his team have come up with for the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest." He added, "After listeners hear the Eurovision song My Friend, Jacques will field questions from listeners and from everyone following us via our Facebook profile and the eurosong.hrt and eurosong.hr websites."

The team that wrote the music for My Friend consists of Jacques Houdek, Siniša Reljić, and Tony Malm, with lyrics by Jacques Houdek, Ines Prajo, Arijana Kunštek, and Fabrizio Laucella, while violinist Antun Stašić and cellist Neven Šverko provided a world-class interpretation of the song’s message.

"I’m glad to have been able to put together such a brilliant song writing team, and their exceptional talents have helped me to create the concept for a song that I believe will present our country in the best possible light", said Jacques Houdek.

Yesterday an instrumental version of My Friend was released by Jacques Houdek's team and fan Carl Allen from Crawley in the United Kingdom even had a tattoo done in honour of Croatia's entry this year!

Last week Jacques Houdek was unveiled as Croatia’s representative in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest and today Croatian broadcaster HRT have announced that his song for Kyiv is called My Friend.

"My wish with this Eurovision song, like with all my songs so far, is to promote the sense of togetherness, friendship and respect for diversity", said Jacques. The announcement of the song's title will mark the launch of a digital campaign called #beMyfriend that has been developed by the Croatian Eurovision representative and his team. On social media he posted a photo with the goal to motivate people to open up, create and renew friendships. "Remember your friends, make them happy by dedicating a photo to them, show them how important they are to you, make new friends. Let this song and the #beMyfriend campaign be a celebration of friendship, the joy of living and a priceless wealth of love, trust and mutual respect", he added.

My Friend is due to be released in the coming weeks.
