In this section you will find information relating to the respective selections of the 43 countries participating in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest. The 62nd edition of the competition will take place in the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, on 9th, 11th and 13th May.

The semi-final of the Romanian national selection will take place on 26th February but before that the participants will perform at a special concert which will be broadcast live on TVR on Sunday evening. The running order of the semi-final will also be revealed during the course of the evening. The concert will be broadcast at 19:10 CET on Sunday 19th February and will be streamed live internationally.

The 15 hopefuls in the Romanian national selection have been revealed. The semi-finalists were chosen by a jury, after auditions took place at the end of January. The qualifying acts were:

  • Alexandra Crăescu - Hope
  • Ana-Maria Mirică - Spune-mi tu (Tell me)
  • Cristina Vasiu - Set the Skies on Fire
  • D-lema - Adventure
  • Eduard Santha - Wild Child
  • Elizé & No Stress - Fără bariere (Without barriers)
  • Ilinca ft. Alex Florea - Yodel It!
  • Instinct - Petale (Petals)
  • Maxim - Adu-ți aminte (Remember)
  • Mihai - I Won't Surrender
  • Ramona Nerra - Save Me
  • Tavi Colen & Emma - We Own the Night
  • Tudor Turcu - Limitless
  • Xandra - Walk On By
  • Zanga - Două sticle (Two bottles)

Mihai represented Romania in the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Tornerò which finished fourth. 

The semi-final of the Romanian national selection will take place on 26th February and will see 10 finalists selected by the jury. The final will take place on 5th March and the winner will be chosen exclusively through televoting.


The names of the semi-finalists in the Romanian selection will be revealed this Sunday evening according to broadcaster TVR. Ioana Voicu and Dan Helciug will host live show, which starts at 19:00 CET, which will also feature a surprise contest for the viewers. 

The 15 hopefuls in 2017 will be introduced by well-known names in Romania including previous Romanian Eurovision Song Contest representatives such as Elena Gheorghe, Luminiţa Anghel, Monica Anghel, Paula Seling, Cezar Ouatu, Marcel Pavel, Ovi and Dan Bittman.

Viewers will have a chance to hear the songs that have qualified for the semi-final and previous Romanian Eurovision acts will also perform during the evening. The semi-finalists have been chosen by a jury, after auditions took place at the end of January. Jury members were:

  • Luminiţa Anghel
  • Ovi Jacobsen
  • Adrian Romcescu
  • Paula Seling
  • Andrei Tudor

The semi-final will take place on 26th February and will see 10 finalists selected by the jury. The final, which takes place on 5th March, will see the acts battle for the chance to represent Romania in Kyiv. The winner of the final will be chosen exclusively through televoting.


The jury of the Romanian National Selection 2017 will be made up of: Luminiţa Anghel, Ovi Jacobsen, Adrian Romcescu, Paula Seling and Andrei Tudor. 

Luminiţa Anghel represented Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005, together with the band System, with the song Let Me Try which finished third. 

Artist, composer, producer, and instrumentalist, Ovi Jacobsen has at this moment albums and singles in Norway, Europe, Asia and South America. He is the author and– together with Paula Seling – the performer of the songs Playing with fire and Miracle, Romania's Eurovision entries in 2010 and 2014 respectively. 

Adrian Romcescu has participated as a composer at the 1998 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, where Malina Olinescu performed the song Eu cred (I believe).  As a composer, he conducted the BBC Orchestra, the last time there was a full orchestra at the Eurovision Song Contest.

Singer, composer and musical producer, Paula Seling has represented Romania, with Ovi Jacobsen, in two editions of the Eurovision Song Contest. Playing with fire, in 2010 which finished third. They returned in 2014 with Miracle which finished 12th. 

Andrei Tudor composed Pe-o margine de lume (On the verge of the world), Romania's Eurovision entry in 2008 performed by Nico & Vlad Miriţă.

84 songs have been received for the Romanian national selection. 

The list includes entries from local artists such as Lora, Mihai Trăistariu, Florin Chilian, Maxim, Ioana and Distinto, Tavi Colen and Emma, Tudor Turcu, Nora Deneș, Cristina Vasiu, Teodora Dinu or Ramona Nerra, but also foreign composers; Swedish, British and American. Several projects produced by Marius Moga and Adrian Sână have also been submitted.

Iuliana Marciuc, producer of the 2017 National Selection said, "I thank the ones who have registered for the national selection 2017, for their trust and we do assure them that all our efforts from these days are focused on the auditions that will be recorded in the period 27-29 January. Just like we did every single year, we will offer our competitors technical facilities at the highest standards for these auditions. We will broadcast the auditions, in premiere, in a series of programmes on TVR channels".

The ones who pass the file checking stage will enter the pre-selection round. The jury will decide the semi-finalists of the national selection in a TV show. Artists will perform on Friday 27th January, Saturday 28th January and Sunday 29th January. For the first time the artist auditions will be broadcast between 5th and 11th February in a series of programmes on TVR 2, TVR HD and TVR International.

The semi-final of the selection will take place on Sunday 26th February in TVR’s studio with the final on 5th March. The winner will be chosen exclusively by the public. For more information about the Romanian national selection visit the official website.
