London, United Kingdom -

The United Kingdom will choose their singer, and also unveil their entry to the public for the first time in the show Your Country Needs You tonight at 21.30 CET.

Earlier this year, it was revealed by the United Kingdom broadcaster the BBC, that they had approached legendary songwriter and producer Pete Waterman to write their entry for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. He accepted the challenge on the condition that his long term collaborator Mike Stock was also allowed to be involved.

Graham Norton will host the show. He will also be the United Kingdom commentator for the Final in Oslo in May having last year taken over from Terry Wogan.

The format of the show tonight will feature a specially selected panel consisting of Pete Waterman himself, last year’s UK entrant Jade Ewen and performance judge supremo Bruno Tonioli.

After live performances from the six acts, and feedback from the panel, Pete will choose three acts to debut his eagerly awaited Eurovision song. This time it’s the viewers that they have to impress, as the winner will be decided by a public vote.

The performers hoping to win the ticket to Oslo, performing the Pete Waterman & Mike Stock song are :-

Alexis, a 20 year old singer and dancer, and self confessed showman. Josh ,a 19 year old singer who admires old school vocalists, Miss Fitz, a girl group known for their jazzy style. Esma, A 17 year old singer with an eclectic style and taste in music. Karen, an 18 year old with a track record of winning contests and finally Uni5, five singers and dancers put together especially for this show. You can read more about all of the participants on the BBC official Eurovision website.

Jade Ewen will be joined by her bandmates from the Sugababes to perform in the interval act, as will last years Eurovision Song Contest winner Alexander Rybak performing his 2009 winning song Fairytale.

The United Kingdom's decision to involve a high profile songwriting team last year, that being Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Diane Warren paid off as Jade Ewen took their composition It's My Time to a highly respectable 5th place in Moscow.

The United Kingdom have won Europe's Favourite TV show on five occasions, most recently in 1997 when Katrina & The Waves took the title in Dublin with Love Shine A Light. The nation has also suffered the indignity of finishing in last place with zero points in 2003 in Riga with Jemini and Cry Baby.

when will they learn? we've used pop songs all this time and lost many times over and no-one seems to have told them that its not working. Remember Lordi? they had lots of entertainment value, which is why i believe we should enter the scottish pirate metal band of Alestorm. Pretty much guaranteed victory

Good luck to everyone involved in tonights show ! Lets hope the right person / act is chosen.
Hope its an upbeat song, there are way too many ballads this year. Looks like being a very dull contest unless some good upbeat, pop or plain old fasioned Eurocamp songs are selected from the remaining finals.
