Tonight Israel will select their entry for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. Harel Skaat will perform four songs and the winner will be decided by a mixture of juries and televoting.

The Israeli channel 2 operator Reshet will air the national final this evening. Harel Skaat was asked to be Israel's entrant some months ago, and accepted the challenge with much enthusiasm. Harel first shot to fame when he finished as runner up in the 2004 edition of Kohav Nolad (Pop Idol).

The four songs from which a winner will be chosen are as follows :

  • Le'an?
  • Elayich
  • Millim
  • Le'hitkarev

The 4 songs were selected from dozens of entries, which were submitted to a panel of musicians and specialists, among them managers of broadcaster IBA's radio stations, musician Elly Abramov (Dana International's producer) and the 1979 Eurovision winner Gali Atari. Harel Skaat is said to be very pleased with the standard of songs that were shortlisted.

Harel Skaat has been supported by former Eurovision Song Contest winner Anne Marie David over the past week and during the Miss Israel competition they performed together a duet of her 1973 winner for Luxembourg Tu Te Reconnaitras.

Israel has won Europe's Favourite TV Show on three occasions, with Izhar Cohen & Alphabeta in 1978 and the song Abanibi, Milk & Honey featuring Gali Atari won in 1979 with Hallelujah and most recently Dana International won the 1998 contest in Birmingham with Diva.

Israel will participate in the first part of the Second Semi Final of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest on Thursday 27th May.

Which song do you think Harel should take to Eurovision?

It's nice song but too slow for my taste.... But it's going to be in a top 10 in the final I guess... The greatest song from Israel was in 2005 It's so beautiful....

Eurovision is a network made up of European, North African and Eurasian countries. Just like the EU has Cyprus as a member yet Cyprus is in the Middle East.!

Am looving at the show live on line. It is very professional - great stage and Harel has sung the 4 songs wonderfully. However there is really only 1 winner - the last song which I think is callled Le'hitkarev is wonderful. This has to win!!!!!

I loved how they went to the offices of the Ambassadors of Ireland and The UK and asked for points for Israel in May - that was very funny.

I have only 1 complaint with the programme - THERE ARE TOO MANY TV ADVERTISEMENTS!!!!!
It is like American tv - very annoying!!!!!!

But a great show. I hope there will be a great interval act now. Good luck Israel

Greeting and POINTS from Ireland

Good luck Israel! I'm sure you'll make the right choice, though any of these incredible songs will be a great success this year, undoubtedly!!!!
What concerns the opinion about the competiton between the Armenian and the Swedish songs! What NONSENSE! I'm Armenian, but I don't like our song at all! Our song is the simplest one you can imagine! I wish the Armenians had had the pleasure of choosing among such wonderful songs! And I know a lot of Armenians too, who are so much captured with Harel's fantastic voice and give preferance to him this year! He's an amazing singer and deserves to win like no other contestant!
So go Harel! You're OUT OF ANY COMPETITION!!

P.S.: My most fav is "Le'an?"! Can't find any proper words to describe my feelings whenever I listen to it!-:P
