Yerevan, Armenia -

Armenia has decided to send a beauty queen and an equally talented singer, Eva Rivas, to the 2010 edition of Europe's favourite TV-show. She'll sing Apricot Stone in the second Semi-Final in Oslo.

The Armenian national final this year was opened by Inga and Anush, who had represented Armenia in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. Before the competing acts performed, Lys Assia, the winner of the first ever Eurovision Song Contest, in 1956, took the stage and wished all the participants the best of luck.

Initially, ten songs had been selected for the final, but the song Never, performed by Sonya, was withdrawn from the competition, thus only nine entries remained. The winner was picked by a combined vote of the public and an expert jury.

Several entries featured elaborate stage performances. Ani Arzumanyan was supported by a folk choir, while Emmy & Mihran were accompanied by a modern dance group, whose choreography was a tribute to Michael Jackson. The stage act to Apricot Stone started with a musician in a black coat playing ethnic motives on a duduk, a traditional Armenian flute, and during the song, Eva Rivas was accompanied by the composer of the song on the piano. The latter was also Armenia's pick for Oslo.

Check out what she's up to in her MyEurovision profile and have a look at her entry below!

Who are they?

In 1996-2004 Eva Rivas used to be a soloist of one of the most famous ensembles in Rostov called Arevik. As a member of the aforementioned choir she sang both classical and variety songs, as well as Russian and foreign compositions. As a solo singer, Eva was repeatedly a laureate in different contests and compositions. In 2000 the ensemble Arevik was awarded the title Ensemble of the Year.

The year 2005 marked a year of new achievements in the life of Eva. She was awarded the titles of Golden Voice of Rostov and Miss Pearl of Don. Likewise, she gained the title of Vice-Miss of the Caucasus in Yerevan. The same year, during the annual ceremony Armenian Song of the Year, she won the first prize. In 2008, Eva started a cooperation with the Armenian production centre and is currently busy recording a full CD.

The composers of Eva's song in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest Apricot Stone are Armen Martirosyan and Karen Kavaleryan, famous for their work both in Armenia and abroad with Karen having already participated six times as a lyricist in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Armenia will perform second in the second Semi-Final of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest.
