Stockholm, Sweden -

Today, the contest for the two so-called web joker positions for the Swedish national selection for the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest will begin. This year, a live show will be broadcast on TV as well.

For the second year running, starting from today till the 21st of September, entries can be submitted to the Swedish broadcaster, SVT.

The voting for the best entries will start on the 11th of October on a special website. However, for the first time, five of them will qualify for a live show where viewers will pick the two lucky ones to qualify for the Swedish national selection, Melodifestivalen.

"It will be the largest and most effective online platform for authors and artists who want to reach a large audience. That this year we can have a live final on TV feels like a natural step," says Christer Björkman, producer of the 2011 Melodifestivalen.

The web joker live show will be broadcast on the 8th of November on SVT24.

In the autumn of 2009 SVT conducted the first ever web joker race. The aim was to create a free forum for all non-established authors and artists to get their music submitted to a wide audience. Last year's 300,000 votes and more than 800,000 videos were sent in during the four weeks.
