Basel,Switzerland -

Lovebugs is set to introduce Europe their mountain blend of pop, indie, disco and rock. How so? They'll be representing Switzerland at this year's Eurovision Song Contest with the song Highest Heights.

Just like the last four years, Swiss television opted for an internal choice of both singer and song. The group chosen this time was Lovebugs, one of the most popular pop rock bands in the country.

The group Lovebugs was set up in 1992 and consists of five members: Adrian Sieber (vocals). Thomas Rechberger (guitars), Florian Senn (bass), Stefan Wagner (keyboards) and Simon Ramseier (drums). The group has released ten albums since 1994 of which three reached the number one spot in the official Swiss album charts.

"OK, we have upped the tempo," says the vocalist Adrian Sieber about their latest album, which is more for the dance floor, on their website. "For our new album, we've combined our love of big melodies, atmospheric sounds and hypnotic beats with the possibilities that a rock band has at its disposal".

The imaginative idea behind taking rock to the dance floor reflects the Lovebugs' overall concept anyway: "We've never liked repeating ourselves". That's an attitude that impressed Richard Rainey. The Irishman, one of world's leading rock producers, worked for a year on the latest U2 album before starting co-operation with the Swiss band.

Their song Highest Heights is from their tenth album, which was released for their fifteenth birthday. Watch the video below:

The Lovebugs have played over 1,000 concerts throughout Europe, supported the Rolling Stones, and are regarded as one of Switzerland's most successful bands. They will perform eight in the first Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest on the 12th of May in Moscow. You can read more about them here.

Will Lovebugs conquer Europe with their unique music mix? What do you think?

Too much rock, too less pop. And the music is boring through the time - repeating the same line. It's not my favourite. Though DJ Bobo can't sing it was a better choice for Eurovision because of the music and melody.

The biggest news is the participation of Iraq in this year's Eurovision, if the latest news via google is to be believed http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=eurovision+iraq . We have a great song, it's Eurovision Baghdad for 2010!

The song is beautiful, but not to win an ESC. My favorites songs are: Albania, Spain and Norway. No matter the order, as all 3 are equally good.

I really like this song. It has a good beat and an unique sound. i was disappointed that Europe did not support the beautiful song "Era Stupendo" by Paolo Meneguzzi and Switzerland did not make the finals in ESC 2008, but if the Lovebugs do not make it then it is a travesty and an injustice. This song is very, very good! Good luck Lovebugs!

OH and Yohannas. We need more Yohannas too! Just great songs basically, not music designed specifically for a performance.

Excellent song, not a Eurovision showpiece. We need more Lovebugs and Miodios and Maria Haukaas Storengs and Olta Bokas and Sasha Sons and Patricia Kaas's in Eurovision if it is to become the European music festival it should be. Switzerland has been in my personal top 5 for 3 years running now but this year its my number one! If they don't qualify this year I won't know what to say!
