Ukraine will be represented by the creative genius of Svetlana Loboda at the Eurovision Song Contest this year. Learn more about her in this article!

Fifteen entries competed in the Ukrainian national final on the eve of the 8th of March. They had been selected out of 31 contestants in the semi-final, held a month before.

Svetlana Loboda's "Valentines" were four dancers, dressed in traditional Ukrainian kossack clothes and different hats, wearing artificial black moustaches - at the same time, she rocked the stage herself, playing the drum kit.

After the performances, the viewers voted for their favourites while several national and international stars performed on stage. Some singers dedicated their entries the International Women's Day.

In the end, there were two reasons to celebrate for Svetlana Loboda tonight: the International Women's Day and her victory in the Ukrainian national selection. She received the highest points from both the televoting and the jury. You can see her video below.

Style icon

The creative genius of Svetlana Loboda is a local icon in many areas, starting with singing and ending with script writing and fashion. Be sure to look at the YouTube video below for more!

She started her solo career in 2004. April 2008 saw the launch of her own fashion line wearing the name F*ck The Macho. The scandalous, as it may seem, the idea became the popular trend and style concept, expressing social protest against false glamorous trends and sticky stereotypes.

The creative potential of Svetlana doesn’t end up with the described! Later on, in Autumn 2008, she tries herself as the script writer for the music video Za Chto (For What) which proved to be a success.

She'll take the stage seventeenth in the second Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest on 14th of May in Moscow. Read more about her on her Artist Profile.

How will she do? Tell us what you think below!

Why are you discussing political life and making judgmental statements about Ukraine politics? Living in Italy and being a citizenship of Belarus I would never dare talk about Ukraine (besides with K).
If you want to be a winner, you have give a really remarkable performance, unforgettable show, shocking the audience.... last year the violin helped to win the contest, so count please how many violins are there in 2009 competition:))))) so Ukraine is at least something new if compare to the rest participants. Video is well done, even if it is combined from the previous ones, it means - she already has done a good work. Anti crisis girl... smart in the today's world situation. Song is really not something great, but a lot depends on personal charisma and ability to show the best performance. I wish her good luck and he will be definetely in the final!

To Armand from Norway.

But Svetlana didn't make the video for ESC2009 either! and what you see above is the compilation of her previous videos. You can watch them in full versions on her official web-site svetlanaloboda.com .
As for the Swarvoski Diamonds - I don't see anything wrong to put them on if it can help you to win.
As for the circus - just remember the Norwegian entry in Kyiv in 2005, it was interesting and funny and most of all it was SUCCESSFUL.
good-luck to every country.

I wish Svetlana good luck!
She really surprised me. When I saw the song in the Ukrainian pre selection I thought "what the #$%?"
But she's such a strong performer, that she made me like it more with each time. And now it's somewhere in my top 10 :)

Dear Belarusian girl.

The message that Armand from Norway wanted to bring was that Svetlana has stolen money from the Ukrainians and now is trying to win in Eurovision only for her own benefit. It's absolutely wrong to think so and especially to say so. Maybe there are some problems in Ukraine but I am sure that every true Ukrainian is ready to help her with her performance in ESC2009 in spite of hard conditions. So, please, non-Ukrainians stop blaming Svetlana in bad pilitical and social conditions of ukrainian life! and try to think about more constructive faults to find with Svetlana))))

Absolutely agree with Armand from Norway! Ucraine is so full of dirty, it's not a chocolate... Money&sex&politics and nothing to proud, unfortunately...
Dear 1ddd1, I live in Milano now, and there are so many Ucrainians, so do you think they've moved to Italy because of good life in Ucraine??? It's very nice if you are lucky and have a good work, but you know that the whole country is poor... I really love Ucraine, and I wish all the best to the future of this wonderful country, which is in fact full of riches and talents!!!
