Host Country of this year's Eurovision Song Contest, Russia has chosen to go with a powerful ballade again. This time it'll be a female singer Anastasia Prikhdko with Mamo (Mother).

Sixteen contestants tried their best to get the ticket to the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in the Russian capital, Moscow. The show started with excerpts of former Eurovision Song Contest winning entries, performed by children. After that, three past Eurovision Song Contest representatives performed their entries again: Serebro (third place in 2007 with Song No. 1), Alsou (second place in 2000 with Solo) and Dima Bilan, last year winner with Believe. Then, the contestants appeared on stage.

Anastasia Prikhodko tried to attract attention by performing her song partly in Russian and partly in Ukrainian. Three singers were chosen by the televoters. After the announcement, the French entry S'il Fallait Le Faire was presented by Patricia Kaas. Then a professional jury consisting of eleven members, behind closed doors, took the decision who should represent Russia this year: They considered Anastasia Prikhodko's entry the best one. See the winning entry below.

Strong personality

Anastasia Prihodko was born on 21st of April 1987 in Kyiv, Ukraine. She was educated in the National University of Fine Arts in Kiev.

A kind, smart and friendly girl from Kiev, Anastasia has an interesting and rarely low deep voice like that of an opera’s diva. She has graduated from a music academy, the department of folk vocal. She sings quite unordinary minor songs and folk songs in both the Russian and Ukranian languages.

Anastasia is very independent and appreciates independence, that is why since she was fifteen she has been earning money herself. She pays great attention to critique, always trying to improve herself. Singing is the most important thing in her life, but she also has some other hobbies. These include chess, horse riding and fashion, and particularly likes black outfits.

At the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Moscow, Anastasia will carry the Russian hopes of a second successive victory performing the song Mamo, which is written in Russian and Ukranian by Konstantin Meladze, her producer.

She'll be performing in the Final on the 16th of May. Read more about her on her Artist Profile.

We just wanted to leave other countries a chance to winning, because we are so friendly!:-)
And I hope that Nastja is not so dissapointed at the end, because she is not the worsest singer on earth, but it is not so god song, we Russians have to admitt with you all!
