After the first five songs were performed, Paula Seling & Ovi performed three songs from their reportoire including their incredibly successful 2010 entry Playing With Fire. There were other interval acts including a childrens choir singing former songs from the contest and some traditional Romanian music.

Upon completion of all of the competing performances, guest and jury member Johnny Logan performed both of his Irish Eurovision Song Contest winning songs What's Another Year from 1980 and Hold Me Now from 1987. After this, all of the competing artists and audience celebrated the arrival of 2011 together as the clock struck midnight in Bucharest where images of a spectacular firework display in the city centre were beamed on to a screen in the studio.

A lengthy interval act then followed featuring performances from the guests Malta's Chiara and Ireland's Niamh Kavanagh. Paula & Ovi joined Niamh and Chiara for a rendition of Abba's Happy New Year which received rapturous applause from the studio audience.

Exciting voting

The final televoting results were announced, these placed Distino, Ianna & Anthony Icuagu in first place followed by Hotel FM and Mihai Alexandru featuring B-Body & Soul. Johnny Logan performed another four songs including a version of the 1992 Irish winner Why Me which he wrote and a duet of Hold Me Now with a jury member before the jury votes were then declared.

The juries voted Hotel FM in first place, Directia 5 in second and Mihai Alexandru featuring B-Body & Soul third. This gave an overall victory for Hotel FM.

Romania has an excellent recent record and have qualified for the Final of the Eurovision Song Contest every year since the Semi-Final system was introduced in 2004. Their best results to date were third place in the Final on two occasions, firstly in 2005 in Kyiv with Luminita Anghel & Sistem and their song Let Me Try, and again in 2010 in Oslo with Paula & Ovi's Playing With Fire. Hotel FM will be hoping to keep the tradition alive of Romania's 100% qualification for the Final of Europe's Favourite TV Show.
