Dublin, Ireland -

Ireland has made up their mind - it's Jedward to represent them with Lipstick in Düsseldorf, at the 56th Eurovision Song Contest. Will it bring them their eighth victory in May?

For the first time, the broadcaster decided to use five music professionals with a proven experience in the industry, in their national selection, called mentors. Read more about the Irish mentors in our article.

They had the opportunity and task to pick the artists andthe songs they would believe could be potential Eurovision Song Contest winners. So they did!

The five acts which competed tonight for the ticket to Düsseldorf were Don Mescall with Talking With Jennifer, Jedward with Lipstick, Bling with the song Shine On, The Vard Sisters and their Send Me An Angel and Nikki Kavanagh with her Falling.

You can watch the show once more in our Web TV!

The show started with a performance by Niamh Kavanagh of her 1993 winning song In Your Eyes, followed by the five competing act. Just before the studio experts were invited to speak out about their personal favourites and expectation on who would win win, the viewers were treated with Bicks Fizz performing their 1981 Eurovision Song Contest winner for the United Kingdom Making Your Mind Up.

In the end it was up for the jury and the viewers to give their votes and this is what they decided - it was Jedward to win with 98 points, followed with only two points difference by Nikki Kavanagh (96 points), Don Mescall (68 points), The Vard Sisters (54 points) and Bling (44 points). Congratulations!

The entire show is available to enjoy over and over again in our Web TV player.

About the winner

The most talked about participant in the Irish selection are the twin brothers, John and Edward Grimes aka Jedward. The duo shot to stardom after taking part in the United Kingdom X-factor show.

"I chose Jedward as my Eurosong act as I wanted to bring energy and fun to the competition and believe the rest of Europe will love them." - Caroline Downey-Desmond

Despite finishing only sixth in the idol search, they've managed to become hugely popular in Ireland, currently embarking on their first ever 75-already-sold-out-date solo tour. They've also released a debut album and three singles so far.

Last year, the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest winner, Niamh Kavanagh, represented her homeland once again. This time she ended up qualifying for the Final and placing 23rd with the song It's For You.

This is a second (after France with an opera-like song) puzzle for Europe. A great challenge, whether to say O.K. to these guys or just tell them that they still need to do something really great. I prefer different type of songs with a real melody, but I am amazed by the level of professionality they achieved since their first public performance. Ireland took a really great risk choosing them because the song performed by Nikki Kavanagh was really beautiful. My personal opinion is that Europe is not yet ready to be switched to Jeurope or Jedwardope. report to the moderator

I'm Irish and am definitely NOT a Jedward fan, but I must admit that song is super catchy! It will do better than previous years anyway. report to the moderator

Why SOOOOO much hate towards these guys . Lighten up , its ESC . Cant think of a more perfect act to perform in this mad crazy , over the top competion.Jedwood were made for this . At least there in on the joke , and the song siuts them down to the ground. Its fun catchy , and should bring in quite a few votes . Im certainly no Jedwood fan , but id rather have them with this song , than sad old boring Blue , screaming along to a song thats instantly forgetable .
thank your luckly stars Ireland and enjoy the crack report to the moderator

They can sing! They just need to practice it more. I'm so gonna vote from them! Khm, I mean for Ireland.

And suddenly I have forgiven Ireland their huge depth... :D

Jedward is too cool to Eurovision.

    Can't wait for second semi.

And I think I'm in some kind of Lipstick-loop, and I can't get out. And When I try to, I just end up cranky. report to the moderator

The begining is good but after that... just another pop song.Sure i would dance on this song and even remember it,but not for long. But if we talk about quality than...not good.
Five music professionals with a proven experience in the industry and you select this?
I am from those eurovisian fans who would like to see something quality on ESC.
This is not a competition for summer hit,This is a competition for europian song which will represent all Europe so i would like to see some quality.I was expecting more from you.
Sorry that i am rough but that's my opinion, you don't have to accept it.
Anyway n-éirí leat Ireland. report to the moderator
