and finally... Italy is back with Raphael Gualazzi!!

Sanremo, Italy -

After some speculation in the last days among the several Sanremo Festival contestants, the special jury finally decided that Raphael Gualazzi should represent Italy in their long awaited comeback with the song Follia d'Amore.

The Sanremo Festival takes place during five days in February in the city of the same name. This year it celebrated it's 61st edition. For years the winning song of Sanremo went on to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest, the last time this happened was in 1997 with Jalisse's Fiumi Di Parole, the last time that the country participated in Europe's favourite TV show.

Since the Italian broadcaster, RAI, announced their comeback to the competition there's been a high interest in knowing the entry. It was already announced that it'd be one of this year's Sanremo contestants, not necessarily the winner, as a special expert jury commissioned for the task would make the decision.

And the decision was announced around 22:45 CET by former Italian entry in 1970 Gianni Morandi, this year's Sanremo presenter, and it was a winner indeed: the singer Raphael Gualazzi, who won the "Giovani" section of the Festival on Friday night with the song Follia d'Amore will represent Italy at the Final of the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest on the 14th of May in Düsseldorf!

Gualazzi also won the Critics award, named the Mia Martini Award in honour to the late Italian performer who also represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest twice, in 1977 and 1992.

And what a way to make a comeback to Eurovision! An exceptional song, really well written and blatantly original, and Raphael's voice is just right for a "laid-back" mood! A different league from the synthesized pop entries this year. Hope it appeals to music lovers across Europe and beats all the rest. report to the moderator

Grazie Italia! I was missing you :) I was expecting Marco Mengoni to the return, but this Madness of Love is great. I would prefer all in italian, la più bella lengua del mondo, but it's awesome anyway. The problem is: what about the rest of the europeans? Will they love that? For me it's right in the top 10 but it doesn't always match with the others. FORZA! report to the moderator

    VIVA ITALIA!!!!
After so much time, Italy is back with Raphael Gualazzi.
I am glad that Italy has returned.
I hope that Italy will remain in the eurovision song contest also in the next years.
One point is that, I actually, do not like this song so much, because it is a little
    bit boring, I think.

Good luck Italy. report to the moderator

Why is Italy automatically in the final? How is that?

Song is strange, depends on how he sing live, maybe works great, but doubt it very much, it's too complicated. report to the moderator

When a 'committee of experts' has the final choice - and they bypass the winning song/performance, then it looks like some wheeling and dealing took place in the background. And to make things worse, the Italians are coaxed back with a free ride to the finals!
This is not a level playing field ...... report to the moderator
