Moscow,Russia -

Tonight, the Second Semi-Final of the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest took place in the Olimpiyskiy Arena in Moscow. The remaining ten places available in the Final have now been decided during tonight's nailbiting show. Find out who qualified here!

The show was broadcast live from the Olimpiyskiy Arena in Moscow, and just like the First Semi-Final, it was presented by Natalia Vodyanova and Andrey Malakhov. The theme of the Second Semi-Final was that of modern people and comedy and irony, and the stereotypes people still have about Russia and Russians. The atmosphere inside the arena was electric, an array of different flags and colours being waved in every corner.

Nine qualifying countries were picked by televoting, and a tenth finalist was selected by the national juries all over Europe, unless of course the top ten matched exactly with the televoting and juries, this will not be confirmed immediately. All the countries represented in the Second Semi-Final were voting, as well as France, Russia and Spain. This is the list of countries that qualified in the order they were announced (the full results and placings will be revealed after the Final of the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest)

  • Azerbaijan
  • Croatia
  • Ukraine
  • Lithuania
  • Albania
  • Moldova
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Norway
  • Greece

This now means that we have the full list of 25 finalists for Saturday evening's show which starts at 21.00 CET. Stay tuned to Eurovision.tv for coverage of tonight's winners press conference very shortly to determine which places in the Final draw tonight's qualifiers will occupy. You can watch the winner's press conference live online.

I gave my vote for Lithuania... Their song was the best.. As for me, Norway song was not so good.
To my mind, top-5 had to be the next:
1 Lithuania
2 Moldova
3 Greece
4 Denmark
5 Estonia
...
6 Norway
....
10 Ukraine))

Hi Europe!

Finally, tonight is the FINAL night !!! Congratulations to all countries which are in the final! Do not be lazy and vote for the country you liked the most that after the competition there would not be comments such as "Europe does not have taste at all" or "why country A?? I liked country B more" and so on. Do the best you can ;)

I liked almost all the countries performances which are in the final now, especially Estonia, Sweden Greece. Also, I think that Lithuanias performance is worth being in the final and if you liked it vote for us ;)

Anyway, good luck to all of you !!

Toppers should have been in the final! Allthough there were quite some songs liked and got through to the final like Norway, Greece, Denmark, Estonia and a bunch if others, but i honestly don't see how Ukraine got through! It was horrible, her voice, the act but i guess sex sells (like most videoclips you see on music channels)

Anywayz, good luck to all in the final tonight! My top faves are Iceland, Norway and Sweden (and not because there western countrys, but because i like the songs very much!)

Greetz,

Kim

I completely agree with Damo Ireland. The Irish and Cypriot songs deserved to make it to the final. Also the Hungarian song was very good. At least Norway and Estonia (not difficult though for Estonia) made it to the final.

Let's face it: supporting neighbouring and friend countries is a fact and a part of life. Then again, beautiful songs, even if they don't make it to the final, still are great to listen to. Well Done Cyprus and Ireland. See you next year (hopefully).
GO GO Norway, Germany, Estonia

Hello! i'm from the Netherlands, i must say that i find it pity that the toppers are not in the final! But you guys don't know them and there humor so i can see why you didn't vote for hem because the song wasn't that great haha! But it was cheerfull !:D i voted for Norway by the way, nice song. I do think that there is some " votes for the wrong reasons" but it is also true that the balkan country's produce better songs :)
We do have good performers in the netherlands, but they don't want to go to Eurovision because they think it is crap:P Oh well let's have the balkan country's theire party : WE HAVE SOCCER!:D
In don't know which country i'm going to vote for tonight , But i deffinatly not going to vote for Greece or Azerbaijan or Malta what a Crap
i liked Norway, Moldova, Sweden, Iceland,Turkey, France, Armenia, and i probably forgot some country's i decide tonight! Greets From Frisiaaa! ( the north of the Netherlands)

I would just like to say i think the eurovision song contest has gone from bad to worse in recent years .. for example when you look at the countries that went through tonight half of them didnt deserve to go through like Ireland and Cyprus they where excellent and put on a good show but eatsern europe are just still voting for each other Eurovision is a joke i will watch the final but it may be my last time as most songs that are there dont deserve to be there.
Also i have heard rumours Ireland will be withdrawing from eurovision as the results of last year and this years semi finals where a joke!! i no Ireland have not been very good in eurovision recently but i would admit this years entry was different ,good and deserved to make the final. Cyprus the same they also deserved to be in the final what a beautiful performance from them.
i hope people from Cyprus and other countries that didnt make it will back me up
