This year's Eurovision Song Contest was won by the Norwegian Alexander Rybak with his Fairytale with a record score of 387 points. How did it all start and how did it end? Find this out in our series of 2009 summary articles about Europe's favourite TV-shows!
Who is he?
The Norwegian Alexander Rybak is one talented young artist. He's not only performing his entry but has also written it and plays the violin on the stage! "I know this is going to win, for the first time I think the odds are right... This is the only song that sticks out with a great performance a good song and a charismatic singer..." said one of the comments before the Contest. "I really think this will win, his live performances are faultless and he is charismatic and charming," said another supporter. And they were absolutely right!

Alexander Rybak and Ovi were the lucky qualifier's of the third Norwegian heat in their quest to find a winner for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. Both managed to charm Norway's televoting audience and collected the highest number of votes!
In a splendid final tonight in Oslo's Spektrum, it was Norway's turn to choose their singer for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. Eight songs were on offer and experts juries and the televote decided that Alexander Rybak's Fairytale would be the one song that would represent the country best! Alexander's victory came as no surprise: almost all betting agencies had seen him as the big favourite as the song is already No.1 in the official Norwegian charts!
The sixth country to rehearse today was Norway. Pre contest bookmakers favourite Alexander Rybak performed his song Fairytale to as full an arena as we have seen to date in the first three days of rehearsals.
Norway's Alexander Rybak rehearsed for the second time on Friday evening. The performance of Fairytale was unchanged from the previous performance, and the Norwegian camp was calm and collected. But young Alexander Rybak has become the focus of much attention, and he was urgent to keep his concentration before the rehearsal.
Alexander Rybak admits that wearing the Norwegian flag on his chest, representing his country in this years Eurovision Song Contest is a dream come true for him, in a way his own Fairytale!.
After an exciting voting in front of thousands of people in a fully packed Moscow Olimpisky Indoor Arena and millions of TV viewers all over Europe, it was finally Alexander Rybak from Norway who received the highest number of points from televoters and juries from the 42 countries participating in this year's edition of Europe's favourite TV-show! Norway managed to gather 387 points altogether - a new record! -, followed by Yohanna from Iceland with 218 points and Azerbaijan's AySel & Arash who collected 207 points. After an exciting show, the winner of the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest is known - it's Alexander Rybak from Norway! Right after the Final, a press conference was held where he answered the questions of the press.
This year's Eurovision Song Contest number one is quickly turning into the most successful winner since years. Alexander Rybak's Fairytale is already a big download hit on the internet, and is expected to hit the charts in several countries across Europe later this week. In the official download shop of the Eurovision Song Contest, Fairytale is the most downloaded song amongst the 42 participants.
This year, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) introduced professional juries in all 42 participating countries to take a 50 percent stake in the result of the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest. In total, 210 music industry professionals - five per country - cast their votes and also declared Norway's Alexander Rybak as winner. Eurovision.tv can now exclusively reveal the outcome of the jury vote.
This year's Eurovision Song Contest winner is well underway to turn into a pan-European hit. While Fairytale is still doing extremely well in the iTunes download charts across Europe, Rybak's song is also turning into a traditional chart hit in several countries. Meanwhile, his performances at the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow were viewed millions of times through video community YouTube. But there is good news for more of this year's contestants!
