Geneva, Switzerland -

It is still over five months before the 2009 Junior Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Kyiv, Ukraine, yet the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) Steering Group of the event already picked the destination for the 2010 running of the contest! The bid to host the 8th Junior Eurovision Song Contest was won by Belarusian broadcaster BTRC, which will host the competition at the brand new Minsk Arena in the country's capital.

The Minsk Arena, to be completed by the end of this year, can host up to 15,000 spectators.

Svante Stockselius, the Executive Supervisor of the event on behalf of the EBU, said: "Belarus is a committed participant of the Eurovision Song Contest and the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, and won the latter twice. Moreover, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest is one of Belarus' most popular television shows. Finally, BTRC's bid to host the competition gave the Steering Group the confidence that they are capable of hosting the competition."

The Belarusian bid to host the competition was supported by no one less than Alexander Rybak, who won this year's Eurovision Song Contest for Norway with thesong Fairytale. The 23-year old singer was born in the Belarusian capital Minsk and moved to Norway at the age of 4.

The preliminary date for next year's Junior Eurovision Song Contest is Saturday, 20th of November, 2010.

Before heading for Belarus, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest goes to Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. The 7th running of the contest will take place on Saturday, 21st of November, 2009. Young talents from 13 countries will be represented.

I am totally against Junior Eurovision Song Contest. The whole idea of putting kiddos to compete for no special reason as the winner does not have the obligation to host the contest is really annoying. If EBU would like to do something really good in order to spend some air transmission hours , then all they can do is bring back another old show like Eurovision. And the name of it is JSF (Jeux Sans Frontieres). If someone wants more infos about it. You can check it on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeux_Sans_Fronti%C3%A8res report to the moderator

Belarus, of course, can take the Junior Eurovision, but it seems to me that they do not make it so terrific, how could other countries.)))) report to the moderator

I think that the best thing that EBU could do for this contest, is change the age of participatios, from 13 to 16. Its name could be changed for the Teen Eurovision Song Contest. It would be fairer and more countries would take part. Please EBU, think about this:) report to the moderator
