Today at 12.00 CET the voting for the MTV European Music Awards 2009 begun. Among others, some former winners and participants of the Eurovision Song Contest have been nominated. Europe, start voting now!

From today until the 12th of October MTV has started the voting for the best local acts at the European Music Awards. Among them you can find many artists which have a connection to Europe's favourite TV-show. So, here are some thoughts for whom to vote this year.

As almost like a tradition for the past years, Dima Bilan, the winner of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade, has been nominated for the Best Russian act. He's won that prize since 2005, so chances are also high this time!

Together with him it's Sergey Lazarev, who participated with Bilan in the Russian national selection back in 2008, is also on the list. You can vote for your favourite Russian act on the site of MTV Russia.

Another crowned Eurovision Song Contest head in the contest is Helena Paparizou. The winner of the 2005 edition of Europe's favourite TV-show is now in the list of the nominations for the Best Greek Act. You can vote for her on the site of the MTV Greece.

Kenan Doğulu, who represented Turkey back in 2007, has been nominated for the Best Turkish Act. He placed fourth then with his Shake It Up Şekerim. You can vote for him on the page of MTV Turkey.

As for this year's participants, the Swiss band Lovebugs is up for the new Best Swiss Act award. Unfortunately, they did not qualify this year for the Final in Moscow with their Highest Heights but have enjoyed those heights in local charts all over Europe since then.

The top 5 most voted for artists from around Europe will go head to head to the ultimate title of Best European Act. The overall winner will be announced at the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards on the 5th of November.
