Tirana, Albania -

The final of Festivali i Këngës, the Albanian national selection for the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, was won by Rona Nishliu tonight. The singer, who was born in Mitrovica, Kosovo, will represent Albania in Baku with her song Suus.

Festivali i Këngës has has been held annually since 1962, and since 2004, it has always been used to pick the Albanian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest. This year, two semi-finals were held, on December 26th and 27th, with 10 out of 14 songs qualifying for the final from each respective show. Yesterday, an additional show was broadcast, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the festival.

All shows were broadcast live from Pallati i Kongreseve in the Albanian capital of Tirana, and they were presented by a trio consisting of Nik Xhelilaj, Hygerta Sako and Enkeleida Zeko. In the interval act, a medley of previous Albanian Eurovision Song Contest entries was performed on stage by the original artists.

After that, the jury gave several special prizes to tonight's contestants. Rona Nishliu was awarded the prize for the best interpretation, while Sokol Marsi got the prize for the best lyrics for the song Kristal. Endri Sina, the composer of Mijëra Vjet, was given the prize for the best melody, and Klodian Qafoku was awarded the prize for the best orchestration for the song Vlen Sa Një Jetë.

This was my favourite song! technically and vocally the best! No one even got close to the whistle register Rona reached! And a key change in every chorus before returning to the original tonic in the verse! Also loved the arrangement of the piece - especially the ascending and descending piano sequence in the upper register of the piano in octaves! I didn't need to understand a single word Rona said to be able to understand the emotion Rona conveyed! Made our song (UK) look rubbish!!! Rona you have a new fan from the United Kingdom!! Hope to see more of you in the future :) report to the moderator

Don't like it, has no place in eurovision. All that screaming scare me. Yes, the world may ve scary, especially coming from Kosovo, but song doesn't have to horrify the audience. Sorry. report to the moderator

Powerful voice, arty video clip. So...what's Iceland going to make out of her Björk voice? :)
There we have Rona projecting a sophisticated, arty and urban image of Kosovo and Željko Joksimović projecting a peasant, cheesy and fraudulent-plagiaristic image of Serbia. Serbs claim Kosovo is the heart of Serbia. In that case, they should vote for this Kosovska Mitrovica Albanian girl rather than for trashy Joksimović. report to the moderator

Basically, Rona is working with some of the world's top Producers in this song, it is shorter, clearer, less screaming, and NO it's not in English :) So basically what we have here, is the best EVER song in Eurovision, as far as quality and artistic approach are concerned.
Whether she will win remains to be seen, due to the fact that Eurovision is known for having the worst music, totally cheesy Euro Trash.
Personally, this time round, I think that the only two artists that will truly stand out are Mr Rambo Amadeus and Rona Nishliu.
One for being so true and funny to the subject, and the other for the purely artistic side.
Let the "BEST of TWO" win!!

Ok just to update on already very old news.
Rona's team has totally revamped the song. It is currently being produced in Hollywood's Ocean Way studios, where top world singers recorded their albums, eg. Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston. Michael Frandeli who also engineered for Keith Richards and The Rolling Stones is also working in the song, both as an engineer and producer, and as a surprise comes Mr Reggie Hamilton, one of the top Bass Guitar Players in the world, he to is playing in the song and adding some of his flavour. report to the moderator
