Helsinki, Finland -

On the stage designed for the final of UMK at the Helsinki Ice Hall, the penultimate decision for the competition was to take place tonight. One of the seven acts was to be evicted only one day before the big final. The unlucky ones were Freeman & Uusi Fantasia.

While rehearsals are in full swing at the Helsinki Ice Hall, Joona Kortesmäki, the male presenter of UMK, invited four of the remaining acts on stage (qualifiers in bold):

  • Mica Ikonen - Antaa Mennä
  • Pernilla Karlsson - När Jag Blundar
  • Ville Eetvartti - Lasikaupunki
  • Kaisa Vala - Habits Of Human Beings

Three of them, Mica, Pernilla and Ville were told to proceed to the green room as they were qualified for the final. There, the female presenter Anne Lainto was waiting to get their first happy reactions. Then Joona called the three remaining competitors (qualifiers in bold):

  • Iconcrash - We Are The Night
  • Freeman & Uusi Fantasia - Noitanainen
  • Stig - Laululeija

Two more were announced as finalists: Stig and Iconcrash. That meant that two of the acts were left behind in the voting for the five-member jury to save only one of them. They performed their songs in front of the jury and their fellow contestants:

  • Kaisa Vala - Habits Of Human Beings (Kaisa Vala)
  • Freeman & Uusi Fantasia - Noitanainen

Jury spokesman Tomi Saarinen announced then that Kaisa Vala was the act to join the final tomorrow. The final line-up looks like this (click to watch a video performance):

Don't miss the final of UMK (Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu), the Finnish national selection for the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, tomorrow at 20:00 CET on the webcast provided by their broadcaster, YLE.

Briefly listened to all the finalists, and I love Stig! But Finland will choose a good entry, because they are all good finalists this year. report to the moderator

There was some really good choices at list of 40 but jury didn't want to take them within...
(TOP40: I pushed like button for "Different Coloured Socks" by Fatima Koroma AND soul hit "Rita Lovely & the Soultwisters: ”November's Touch” BOTH are "out of range" from finnish eurovision finale.

I've only one choice for finnish representative but will see if this artist qualifies tomorrow... :) report to the moderator

Qualification process was quite strange at this year. From couple hundred demos jury qualifies list to 40 then 12 .... and finally to 6 finalist. Saturdays' final show will be something that we have never seen in Finland... (so they have said..)

Anyway.. jury's choices are again quite melancholical or "base pop hits"... This competition should be UMK (=Uuden musiikin kilpailu => New music competition) but in my opinion, qualified artists are "safe choices" for finnish audience but I don't know what you think... are those gray and boring... or interesting? report to the moderator
