After the Nationaal Songfestival at the weekend, we spoke to Joan Franka, John de Mol and Sieneke amongst others about the winning song and its prospects for Baku. Why not take a look at our video feature!

Just before the final result of the Nationaal Songfestival was announced on Sunday night in Hilversum, Joan Franka and her song You And Me were trailing in third place. For her it was the end, either Ivan or Pearl were going to win after coming on top with the professional jury.

However, no sooner had presenter Jan Smit called for the televotes to be added to the jury votes, it became clear that the public were in love with Joan and rocketed her and her song to victory. She now has the honour of representing the Netherlands in the second Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest on the 24th of May in Baku.

After the show we spoke to Joan about how it felt to win from such an unlikely position and about her plans for Baku. We also took the opportunity to speak to world renound producer John de Mol about his role and how he will influence the stageshow in Baku, as well as a number of other influential people who commented Joan's victory and song.

So why not take a look at the below video, made by Eurovision.tv, and enjoy getting to know the Dutch participant better.

I love the song! Excellent choice Netherlands.

I read a short interview somewhere explaining her outfit: apparently the song is written about her relationship with her boyfriend, whom she grew up with, and the outfit is because of a Native American game they would play as children. Which is kind of "explained" in the video that played behind her during the performance.

I don't know if this is correct, but is what I read :) report to the moderator

Joan definitely didn't want to offend anybody. In an interview she explained that she had approached an expert to ask if her outfit was offending. Like you, I think that she has to change it because it's better for our result, but please don't depict her as a bad and discriminating person. She is not! report to the moderator

I hope she will change the clothes... Maybe a more pocahontas style performance will be a better choice haha

The song is Ok, but she has a unique voice and there are more disco-like songs in the competition, so maybe people will notice her because it's different.

Joan Franka is her stage name. Her real name is Ayten Kalan and her parents are from Turkey. Let's pray that Azerbaijan and Turkey will support her :) report to the moderator
