Minutes ago, Swedish broadcaster SVT announced that popular teen idol Darin will be the first wildcard for the 2010 Melodifestivalen, the immensely popular Swedish selection for the Eurovision Song Contest.

In 2004, Darin Zanyar became the runner-up in the Swedish Idol competition, and some months later, he released his first record The Anthem after signing a deal with record label SonyBMG. The album went gold and his first single Money For Nothing went straight up to number 1 and sold platinum. In 2005, Darin released his 2nd self-titled album which also went platinum and included his number 1 singles Step Up and Want Ya!.

At the end of 2006, Darin released his third album Break The News. It also rocketed straight to number 1 and went gold on the first day. Following his success in Sweden, Darin signed a new deal with EMI Germany. In 2007, his single Insanity reached the top 20 in Germany, with considerable success also in Austria and Switzerland. A fourth album followed, called Flasback.

Right now, Darin is No.1 in the official Swedish singles charts with his cover of Coldplay's Viva La Vida.

Darin is the first of 4 wildcards being announced by SVT with the rest to be revealed at a later date. He will perform Out Of My Life written and composed by Henrik Janson and Tony Nilsson.
