1969 - Why Spain should be the winner!
Salomé - The winner of 1969 from Spain
Madrid, Spain -

Here we examine the case for the Spain - Salomé's Vivo Cantando - being made the outright winner of the 1969 Eurovision Song Contest.

The host nation Spain became the first country to win the contest in two successive years, having previously won the 1968 contest by just a single point. In many sporting contests, when there has been a tie, it is generally the reigning champion who is permitted to retain their title, and this could be a factor that could make Spain the winner.

It is somewhat surprising that given the closeness of the 1968 contest, that no-one at that time within the EBU considered what to do in the event of a tie. The host broadcaster TVE had fortunately struck four medals, planned to be awarded to the winning singer(s) and composer(s). In the event only the four winning performers received their award on the night of the contest, with the composers receiving their medals at a later date.

In the 1969 contest Spain received points from nine countries, the same as France. Under the current rules of the contest, it would then go to a count back. The highest individual votes that Spain received was 3 votes, whereas France received several marks of 4 votes.
