Almost 3500 songs were entered for the 2008 Swedish national final, 32 of these made the 4 semi-finals and 10 were present in tonight's thrilling final of Melodifestivalen! However, just one song can represent Sweden in the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade this year and that honour went to Charlotte Perrelli performing Hero, who got the highest number of points from a combined vote of 11 regional juries and televote!

13000 people in a sold-out Globen Arena and millions of TV viewers in Sweden and Finland followed the extremely popular Melodifestivalen tonight, the Swedish national final for the Eurovision Song Contest! Most of the streets all over Sweden were completely empty as people gathered in front of TV screens to watch the country's most discussed show. Ten artists fought for the crown of Swedish pop music. While Sanna Nielsen won the televote, she was outvoted by Charlotte Perrelli, who was backed by the juries. In the end, it was Charlotte Perrelli who excitedly celebrated the victory in the hall and will be the centre of attention in the glamorous after-party which will start in some minutes!

This is the full result of tonight's show:
