NRK have announced that Erik Solbakken who presented the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest will present Melodi Grand Prix next year together with Jenny Skavlan. More details of the Norwegian final have also been revealed.

In 2010, Erik Solbakken together with Haddy N'jie and Nadia Hasnaoui, presented the Eurovision Song Contest atthe Telenor Arena in Oslo. Since then he has gone on to have a host of success presenting various shows in Norway.

It has now been announced that Erik will present Norway's national selection series, Melodi Grand Prix next year together fellow asteemed presenter Jenny Skavlan. Both are used to he pressures of live television and are very keen about this new challenge they have been set by broadcaster NRK.

When asked about her new role, Jenny said, "I've been getting used to extreme sports recently and this really falls into the same category. This one of the most extreme challenges I have been given. There is going to be a lot of nerves and a lot of work, but that's what I like!".

Long-standing presenter and celebrity super-fan Per Sundnes stood down from his role shortly after returning from Baku, where Tooji came last in the Final of the 2012 contest with Stay.

Dates announced for shows

NRK have also firmed up the dates for Melodi Grand Prix:

  • Semi-Final 1, Steinkjer - 19th January
  • Semi-Final 2, Florø - 26th January
  • Semi-Final 3, Not Announced - 2nd February
  • Final, Oslo Spektrum - 9th February

The host city for the third Semi-Final is yet to be announced. We will keep you updated as to where it will be held, soon!

Additionally, the deadline for submission of songs passed on the 1st of September so now NRK have the huge task of picking the entries that will compete in January and February next year for the right to represent Norway in Malmö in May.

Norway will participate in one of the Semi-Finals of the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest on the 14th or 16th of May, with the Final being held on the 18th of May.

    Sounds interesting. I liked Solbakken's performance as ESC-host, I am sure he will be just as great here.

    I wonder if Jenny is related to Fredrik Skavlan? Skavlan isn't such a common name, I believe! report to the moderator
