69 songs through to next stage in Malta

Maltese broadcaster PBS has just today released details of the 69 songs which have progressed to the next stage of the selection process to find Malta's entry for the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest.

Originally, 182 songs were submitted and these have been whittled down to 69 by a special panel. Besides the local interest from Maltese composers, over 100 different authors and composers from 14 different countries submitted entries this year from as far afield as Sweden, Norway, Spain, Cyprus, Israel, Greece, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, France, Australia, Ireland, USA and the United Kingdom.

Some past winners trying again

There are three artists who have already participated in the Eurovision Song Contest for Malta trying their luck again, these are Miriam Christine (1996), William Mangion (1993) and Fabrizio Faniello (2001 & 2006). There are many other notable names in the list including 2012 runner up Claudia Faniello and the 2008 Swedish Idol Winner Kevin Borg.

Final 24 announcement

The 69 songs will now be narrowed to 24. These 24 will then compete in the Maltese national final which is going to be held in January 2013, although exact dates are yet to be confirmed.

The lucky 24 qualifiers will be announced on November 30th in a special edition of the show Xarabank.

    It's great to see composers from my country getting involved in the Maltese national selection. Jessica Muscat's Ultraviolet could be the one to watch as her song is composed by the one and only Thomas G:Son! report to the moderator

    Kevin borg is born in malta, he lived in malta until the age of 21..and he married a swedish girl and is living in sweden :) so he is from malta, living and working and making a huge success in sweden ;) he is amazing! report to the moderator

    I'm so excited, I can't wait to hear the songs on November 30, I think Richard will be very good this year, curious to hear Jessica because Thomas G:Son wrote the song and kevin because I so want him to win because he's from sweden. report to the moderator
