Two songs proceed to the Icelandic final

Iceland started the task of succeeding their best placing ever at the Eurovision Song Contest tonight in the first semi-final of Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins, where Matthías Matthíasson and Írís Hólm made it to the final.

The national broadcaster of Iceland, RUV, started their Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2010 national selection tonight. The two songs with the most televotes qualified for the final on the 6th of February. The five songs competing in the first semi-final were (qualifiers in bold):

  • Íris Hólm - The One
  • Matthías Matthíasson - Out Of Sight
  • Sigurjón Brink - You Knocked Upon My Door
  • Kolbrún Eva Viktorsdóttir - You Are The One
  • Karen Pálsdóttir - In The Future

Before the final, two more semi-finals will follow on the 16th and the 23rd of January and there will also be a special show where the songs will be summed up on the 30th of January. Last year Iceland was the runner-up in the Eurovision Song Contest Final with Yohanna's Is It True?
