Tampere, Finland -

After three semi-finals held earlier in January, Finnish TV viewers were asked tonight to choose their representative for the upcoming 2010 Eurovision Song Contest which will take place at the end of May in Oslo. The task was hard with 10 strong songs being performed in front of an enthusiastic crowd in Tampere, but it was ultimately Kuunkuiskaajat with their song Työlki Ellää who got the highest number of sms- and televotes!

It was showdown time in Tampere tonight: 10 artists fought for the honour of representing their native country Finland in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. Hosted by Jaana Pelkonen and Mikko "Peltsi" Peltola, the Finnish nation had a difficult choice in Eurovision Laulukilpailu to choose from 10 different offers - but it was ultimately Kuunkuiskaajat who managed to charm the televoting audience most! They will now perform their song Työlki Ellää in one of the two Semi-Finals of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest.

The Finnish final consisted of two round of voting tonight. In the first round of voting, the participants were the following:

  • Maria Lund - Sydän Ymmärtää
  • Antti Kleemola - Sun Puolella
  • Linn - Fatal Moment
  • Pentti Hietanen - Il Mondo È Quì
  • Heli Kajo - Annankadun Kulmassa
  • Nina Lassander - Cider Hill
  • Amadeus - Anastacia
  • Sister Twister - Love At The First Sight
  • Eläkeläiset - Hulluna Humpasta
  • Kuunkuiskaajat - Työlki Ellää

After a first round of voting, a so-called super-final was introduced featuring the three acts that received the highest number of sms- and televotes in the first round (winner in bold):

  • Nina Lassander - Cider Hill 2nd
  • Eläkeläiset - Hulluna Humpasta 3rd
  • Kuunkuiskaajat - Työlki Ellää 1st

Finland has been participating in the Eurovision Song Contest since 1961 and it took the country 45 years till its first victory when Lordi won Europe's favourite TV-show in Athens in 2006. Since then, Finland has managed to reach the final of the Eurovision Song Contest every time though last year Waldo's People's Lose Control only manage to come 25th.

Dear neighbours. You had such a beautiful song in your final. But you voted this song as a winner and put the best song in second place. This is to different especially if they intend to sing this in finnish. I predict no final for you this year report to the moderator

By others I meant other types of music (althought you can actually find beautiful scents of folk music from (for example) Amorphis and Nightwish songs). report to the moderator

I'm happy that Kuunkuiskaajat won. These artists and their song make me so happy. I like to hear it over and over again. I am happy that they were chosen to represent Finland even if they don't win (or even if they come last). It was best of them all. I like almost all kinds of music (if it sounds good to me) and folk oriented music like Värttinä and Kuunkuiskaajat are also to my liking as are others like Amorphis, Metallica, Nightwish (especially with Tarja Turunen), Sarah Brightman, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Kylie Minogue, Prodigy, The Donnas and many soundtracks and many classical pieces and so on and so on... report to the moderator

Dear, Epicfin: I do understand many people like hard rock and those discobeats. But it´s boring that year after year the same crap will be in Top 5. Think about music Turkey and Greece send every year, it´s a pity, that these nearly toppless girls and boys get so much more points than properly dressed musicians like our Kuunkuiskaajat (ö: Näin on näreet-valitettavasti! report to the moderator

Lumipallo: The thing is, this song is too much folklore, the rest of europe will not "understand" this song. I don´t care if it is in finnish or english, the girls are beautiful, but the song is very weird. I´m finnish and don´t wanna be associated with this type of music. I never ever listen to this type of music. Some people might like it, some people might not. I´m quite sure they won´t make it to the finals.
And at last, no we are definately NOT the best this year in ESC..!! The finnish people might think so, but not europe. This might sound slightly brutal, but I personally think this is the worst crap Finland has sent for a long time... report to the moderator
