Gothenburg, Sweden -

Melodifestivalen moved to the west of Sweden this week, with the third semi-final of the popular music competition being held in the Scandinavium in Sweden's second biggest city Gothenburg. Almost three million TV viewers in each of the first two semi-finals had seen Ola, Salem Al Fakir, Eric Saade and Andreas Johnson qualify for the grand final - this week, they were joined by two more candidates for the Melodifestivalen crown - Timoteij and Darin!

The third week of the 2010 Melodifestivalen saw one of the big favourites appearing in Gothenburg's Scandinavium. Darin - runner-up in Swedish Idol in 2004 and one of the best-selling artists in Sweden - made his long-awaited debut in the country's biggest TV-show. National broadcaster SVT had asked him to participate as a wildcard every year since he became famous, but only this year he felt comfortable entering with his midtempo ballad You're Out Of My Life. He was joined in this week's field by lots of newcomers in the competition, but also by the veterans of Alcazar who had participated three times in Melodifestivalen before. Another known face was Elin Lanto who narrowly missed out the final in 2007 when she performed Money.

The 8 participants fighting for two vacant spots in the final were the following (qualifiers in bold)

  • Alcazar - Headlines
  • Johannes Bah Kuhnke - Tonight
  • Elin Lanto - Doctor Doctor
  • Erik Linder - Hur Kan Jag Tro På Kärlek
  • Getty Domein - Yeba
  • Timoteij - Kom
  • Darin - You're Out Of My Life
  • Crucified Barbara - Heaven Or Hell

Crucified Barbara and Alcazar shouldn't give up their hopes yet as they will have another chance to grab a place in the final. They will participate in the so called Andra Chansen - the Second Chance round which will take place in two weeks' time.

Next week, the Melodifestivalen circus will move to the southern city of Malmö where 8 more artists will have a chance to grab a spot for the final.

Sweden managed to reach the final of the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest with Malena Ernman's La Voix which was ultimately placed 21st.'s Gustav Dahlander had a chat with the female hard rock band Crucified Barbara who closed the evening with the rock ballad Heaven Or Hell. Listen to what the girls had to say about music like theirs entering for the Eurovision Song Contest!

ALL Finalists and the artists that went to the second chance will be on youtube and on Saturday once the 4th Semi Final in Malmo has ended.
As Beelala said, you can listen on 1 minute of each song that participates in the 4th semifinal. Until it's ended, then you can listen to the whole songs. Even those who wasn't participating in THIS semi-final. report to the moderator

Timoteij won't be disqualified. The song they "stole" was Vinterland by Sarek, and the only thing they have in common is the genre...

So far I think Manboy by Eric Saade is the best. And it is a music contest, not a lyric contest... I think Sibel and Anna Bergendahl and Peter Jöback will be very dangerous in the final, though. report to the moderator

I don't like Timoteijs song at all. It's bubblegum pop for kiddies. However, they're being accused of plagiarism and will be sued soon by Sonerud records. EBU and SVT might try to push this under the carpet but with some outside pressure they'll be forced to disqualify them. I hope Crucified Barbara will take their place. *cheer* Alcazar would be an improvement as well though. :) report to the moderator

Eric Saade - Manboy is probably the weakest song in the contest atm. Plus, if i'm correct Charlotte Perreli wasn't the choice of the Swedish people, it was chosen by jury. Sweden wanted to send Sanna Nielsen - "Empty Room" year 2008. And 2009, Malena was chosen cause the Swedes wanted to try something different. Just look the the 2nd place in the melodifestval 2009. Caroline Af Ugglas - "Snälla Snälla" a very odd song. This year, I really hope Sweden sends Darin - You're out of my life. Extremely strong and well written song. I'm afraid, "SUPERTROUPER from Norway" that you doesn't listen to the songs at all. You just go by the melody, cause I can tell. "Manboy" has a great song, but bad lyrics. I'm afraid UK's entry will be a flop. So i'll be hoping for Sweden this year. I have a really rare feeling, saying Stockholm 2011. report to the moderator

Sweden had problems with their entries the last years {The ark, Charlotte Perelli, Malena Ernman) and ended in the last places. I really hope for a much better semi next saturday (With Peter Joback), but ..... Sweden needs all the luck they can get to enter the big final. And .... We have something in common Tobseren: Eric Saade is also my "favorite" so far. report to the moderator

Eric Saade is my absolute favorite so far. But i have to agree with Supertrouper: Melodifestivalen isn't as good this year as it has been, but i think it was the same in 2007. report to the moderator

I don't agree with you, SUPERTROUPER. Darin was absolutly amazing tonight. He'll win Melodifestivalen, and I think he might even have a good chance in Eurovision. report to the moderator

I`m so disappointed with this years Melodifestivalen!
It`s just horrible songs! Tonights best performance was Alcazar, but the Swedes send them to the second chance.
Sorry Sweden: You will not make it to the big final with this songs! report to the moderator
