Tbilisi, Georgia -

Tonight, the song with which Sofia Nizharadze will represent Georgia in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest was chosen in a national final. According to the joint decision of an expert jury and the TV public, it's Shine, a song written by Hanne Sorvaag, Harry Sommerdahl & Christian Leuzzi.

The Georgian national final for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest took place tonight in the Tbilisi Event Hall, hosted by Davit Katsarava. Previously, 24-year-old Sofia Nizharadze had been internally selected to represent Georgia in Oslo. After that, an open call for songs was launched by GPB. Local and international songwriters participated in the competition, and in the end, six songs were picked by a jury. All of them were presented in tonight's final by Sofia. The choreography for each of the songs was designed by the director Lasha Oniani, and six special stage outfits were created by fashion designer Teona Elizbarashvili.

The show started with a dance performance, and after that, the five jury members, who decided on the final result in a 50/50 combination together with televoting, were presented. In between Sofia's performances, a small orchestra was playing and the composers and lyricists of the six entries got the opportunity to pass a message to the public. This is the final result of tonight (winning song in bold):

  • Our World (written by Mikheil Mdinaradze)
  • Sing My Song (written by Svika Pick)
  • Never Give In (written by Tinatin Japharidze, Ben Robbins & Billy Livsey)
  • For Eternity (written by Carlos Coelho & Andrej Babic)
  • Call Me (written by Brandon Stone)
  • Shine (written by Hanne Sorvaag, Harry Sommerdahl & Christian Leuzzi)

Thus, Sofia Nizharadze will sing Shine in Oslo, a song written by written by Hanne Sorvaag, Harry Sommerdahl and Christian Leuzzi. Georgia will take part in the second half of the Second Semi-Final of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest, to take place on the 27th of May in Oslo. The best result of a Georgian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest to date was achieved in 2008 by Diana Gurtskaya, who came 11th with Peace Will Come. Will Sofia Nizharadze be able to top this result?

Sofia will present the winning song to the Azeri public in the Azerbaijani national final on the 2nd of March in Baku, so this will be your next opportunity to see her perform the Georgian entry for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest!
