I'm rooting for Caroline Af Ugglas! Snalla Snalla was a tad repetitive, but she has a nice voice and quirky attitude, I love her and her spunk! Greetings from the U.S.A!! :) report to the moderator

Oops, my mistake! You were correct, Loreen finished 4th on the first Swedish Idol, not X Factor, in 2004. And I think this was the point the Swedish public will have remembered Loreen, so she's not exactly a complete unknown. Her Melodifestivalen debut in 2011 with "My Heart Is Refusing Me" must be the point where Europe have seen Loreen perform, including myself, before returning a year later with "Euphoria". report to the moderator

Bjorneo.. Btw.. Loreen took part in the very first season of Swedish Idol in 2004. Not in X Factor. I think most swedes remembered her from Melodifestivalen 2011 with "My heart is refusing me" before entering with "Euphoria". I did anyway.. report to the moderator

My first comment was based on what Jajceboy has mentioned on his first comment, so obviously he's more familiar with Melodifestivalen than the two of us and what to expect from the acts revealed for 2013. report to the moderator

If Munter or La Fondell gets good tunes, they will probably win. Last year Munter had a too weak song, "Sticks and stones" is much better, and Fondell is amazing when she is performing. http://youtu.be/0VaKm7MQEQo

Remember this, take a print screen, remember my name! I know this is right... =p report to the moderator

    Eurovisionluck,
From what you've mentioned, the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow is the best example where the UK did very well with an unknown singer.

The song on that year was "It's My Time", composed by the world famous Andrew Lloyd Webber. This ballad based entry had the quality to do well BUT ONLY with the right singer that can do the right job. And that's when Jade Ewen comes in.

Jade first entered in the UK's national selection show as a replacement to a certain Rita Ora. Strange but true. She definitely has that vocal quality and it's probably the only time the UK public have made the right decision that doesn't involve novelty 'joke' acts. And the rest is history.

Thankfully, Jajceboy understands what I mean when it comes to countries sending bad quality unknown and has-been acts! report to the moderator

    Bjorneo..
Yes, it's all about quality isn't it? Composers who knows what a hit sound like can also work with artists that are not that known. An artist that are not that known can still have quality. Yes, the UK have made horrible choices on that part. But not because the artists weren't unknown, because they were bad artists in my opinion with bad songs. Why do some people become famous in the music industry? I mean most people aren't born with fame. It comes from something they are good at.. Well most of the time anyway.. :) report to the moderator

    I'm with Bjorneo on this.

Loreen was at least half-famous here in Sweden. And she worked with famous composers who knew what a hit sounded like.

Daz Sampson, Scooch and the rest weren't famous when they won and are forgotten now, I think. Plus they worked with writers who had limited exposure and wrote songs who sounded old-fashioned.

That's why I think it's a bit of shame we seem to go the same way with people who had hits ages ago or random people no one probably will hear of after the contest.
Yes, the songs are important but do you think Sylvia Vrethammar or Tommy Körberg knows how hits of today sound like?

My guess is that they either writes schlager type of songs or songs that are "fun". Either ways nothing you probably want a ESC entry to sound like 2013, especially from the host country.

So Bjorneo, I'm with you report to the moderator

    Eurovisionluck,
Jemini, Daz Sampson, Scooch, Andy Abraham. They weren't all that known in Europe before they represented the UK, so why do you think they all did so badly at Eurovision? It's because of the UK's attitude towards the contest and they think it's a good idea to send some novelty 'joke' acts, most of them unknown and has-been, which eventually resulted in horrendously cheesy, camp, outdated songs.

Anyway, about Loreen. yes she's wasn't all that known in Europe before she entered Melodifestivalen, but Sweden still remembers her as a former Swedish X Factor contestant. Her entry "Euphoria" involved two composers who have Eurovision experience and clearly knows what they're doing. Then the Swedish public put their faith on Loreen by choosing her as their representative at Baku this year. report to the moderator
