Minsk, Belarus -

A press conference was held in Minsk on the 3rd of October by Belteleradio Company, the Belarus broadcaster, to explain their national selection project for 2013 which, in fact, takes place already this year: by December we will know who will represent Belarus in Malmö!

The broadcaster of Belarus announced it like this: "The national selection round of the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest starts today". And with this they mean that the songs and applications can already be sent in. The full regulations and participation form for the selection can be found on Belteleradiocompany website.

Artists and/or autors can apply for participation until the 22nd of October (inclusive). The selection consists of three stages:

  • A preliminary audition of the participants to be held on the 31st of October 2012.
  • A sem-final will take place in November 2012 with (maximum) fifteen artists.
  • A final show, with maximum five artists, held in December.

The voting in the audition and semi-final is by professional jury only and a mixture of jury and televote will decide in the final. The head of the 2013 Belarus national selection, Olga Schlager, adds that "this year the focus will be on the scale promotion of the Belarusian representative".

As mentioned in our recent participant article, Belarus first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004. Their best result to date was in 2007 when Work Your Magic placed 6th with Koldun. This year Litesound didn't manage to reach the Final in Baku.

I hope Belarus learns from France 2012. You can perform in every country in Europe, but if the song isn't good you won't do well. Moral of the story is pick a great song and get out of the semis! report to the moderator
