Denmark calls for songs with "a strong chorus" for 2013
Danish broadcaster DR has called for entries to be submitted for its national selection Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. Who is going to be Soluna Samay's successor in Malmö?
The Danes do not have very far to travel next year, in fact they probably won't even need a hotel! The 2013 Eurovision Song Contest will take place just over the Øresund Bridge in the Swedish city fo Malmö; a stone's throw from Denmark's capital city, Copenhagen.
Of course being so near to home turf as it were, Denmark has its honour to preserve and are placing a lot of emphasis on the submission of good and strong songs to next year's edition of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, where the song and artist to represent this small Scandinavian nation in Malmö will be chosen.
Songwriters have until the 24th of September at 12:00 CET to submit their entries to DR in Copenhagen where between 6 and 7 songs will be selected by a specially chosen secret expert jury. The other 3 or 4 entries will be invited by DR to participate as so-called Wildcards in the competition. The rules are thus very similar to previous years.
"I hope that the songwriters will send in the best material they have", said DR Head of Entertainment Jan Lagermand Lundme to the official DR Eurovision Song Contest website.
He went on to say, "we would like to continue with the positive development og Dansk Melodi Grand Prix where the songs are modern and appeal broadly to the Danes. This year we are placing extra focus on attracting some songs that have a strong chorus so I hope that we receive loads of songs that have that".
The Danish people loved Soluna
Soluna Samay only managed to achieve 23rd place in the final of Europe's favourite TV show in Baku back in May but her song Should've Known Better defied this rather disappointing position at home where it sold gold and became a huge radio hit. The Head of Entertainment at DR would like to change this next year.
"It's difficult to speculate as to how one wins the Eurovision Song Contest. Should've Known Better is still a really good song. Soluna and the band were fantastic on stage and the international jury also like the song", said Jan Lagermand Lundme.
"I don't think it's right to try and pander to the other countries. The Danes need to like our entry so we will send a song that we ourselves are proud of and like. And we're not going to see anyone baking on stage", he went on to say referencing this year's Russian entry sung by the six cake-baking Grandmothers of Buranovskiye Babuski.
Whoever wins Dansk Melodi Grand Prix next year will have the honour of representing Denmark at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest, which takes place just over the water at the Malmö Arena in Malmö, Sweden on the 14th, 16th and 18th of May.

Back in the late 80′s I got a phone call out of the blue one Saturday evening from one Lois Walsh.
He’d heard a song I’d written called ‘Loving You’ and asked if I might be interested in submitting it for the Irish Euro entry. After much to’ing and frow’ing, he went with a Johnny Logan song who went on to win it that following year.
I’ve recently written/sung this song ‘You’ and it sounds to me like a a sure one for the Euro. I’m not bothered about performing it myself, but would be keen to submit the song for consideration to a participating country.
Might you suggest how one goes about this, though still a gigging musician myself, I’m out of the loop of all things Eurovision, thus I thought this might be a good place to ask, many thanks.
