Estonia sends Tanja to Copenhagen!
Andres Putting (EBU)
Tallinn, Estonia -

Tonight in a spectacle of a show in Estonia filled with entertainment and 10 wonderful songs, the Grand Final of Eesti Laul 2014 culminated with Tanja being crowned the winner with the song Amazing.

Quality is something we have come to expect from Estonia, and this year was no exception! ERR delivered a spectacular show from the Nokia Concert Hall in Tallinn, where the Grand Final of Eesti Laul 2014 took place.

Ten songs fought their way through the Semi-Finals to make it to tonight's show, and they were all worthy of qualification. However, just one song could win tonight and that was Tanja with the song Amazing, who will wave the Estonian flag in Copenhagen on the 6th of May.

See Tanja perform Amazing below:

The participants

The following ten particpants competed into tonight's show, listed below in order of appearance. The winner has been highlighted in bold.

  1. Brigita Murutar - Laule täis taevakaar
  2. Traffic - Für Elise
  3. Norman Salumäe - Search
  4. Wilhelm - Resignal
  5. Lenna - Supernoova
  6. Super Hot Cosmos Blues Band - Maybe-Maybe
  7. Maiken - Siin või sealpool maad
  8. Kõrsikud - Tule Ja Jää
  9. Tanja - Amazing
  10. Sandra Nurmsalu - Kui tuuled pöörduvad

Superfinal

After the 10 songs were performed, the juries gave their results, which accounted for 50% of the vote in the first round. In all 52,000 televotes were recevied making up the other 50% of the votes. The following two acts went to the Superfinal:

  • Super Hot Cosmos Blues Band - Maybe-Maybe
  • Tanja - Amazing

Birgit and Ott open the show

Opening the show were Birgit Õigemeel and Ott Lepland who represented Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 and 2012 respectively. Birgit appeared first singing an extract of last year's Estonian entry Et Uus Saaks Alguse. After this Ott joined her on stage to perform the track Pea Meeles Head from Birgit's recently released album, Uus Algus.

"Who is drunk, is smart"

The postcards between the songs tonight were created using animated plasticine models and based on old Estonian sayings. You know the English phrase, "hit two birds with one stone"? They use it in Estonia too! Although, instead of birds they use flies, and instead of hitting them, they catch them.

Estonia will take part in the first Semi-Final of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, which takes place at the B&W-Hallerne on Refshaleøen in Copenhagen on the 6th of May. The Grand Final takes place on the 10th of May.

Remember, if you missed tonight's show or loved it so much you want to see it again, you can watch it right here on our ESCTV player!

It's intresting to see how Tanja's fans keep protecting her song. Okay- it's a good song, but I don't understand how you can't see or hear ''Euphoria'' in it, kailike. report to the moderator

This isn't a copy of Loreen. Tanja said herself, that she danced 'contemporary' dance style. That's the style, that Pink usually dances.
But Loreen danced something like an Asian styled dance. report to the moderator

Though im not happy about this choice, i still think its good song.
Also- to all who think Tanja's song copy of Loreen by any way, just listen these 2 songs. Melody and words are totally different (though to be fair, i too mistook it as copy as first hearing), also dance moves- very different. Loreen risked much less on stage. Actually Loreen didnt do anything in comparison- Loreen's dance moves composed mostly of hand moves and balancing between crouching, sitting and standing+some sideways moving. only 2 minutes in (just to be clear, i double watched it just now- 2012 final peformance) she makes some moves, still NOTHING comparable (to be fair, i was kinda suprised- remembered it to be more active. THATS where impression of "copy" comes). Only "grand finale" of song, i.e final notes include her actually doing something else than waving hands around. But our memory can easily remember things better than they were. report to the moderator

Kairi, OMG, are deaf so you cant hear the sooooo similar structures in the melody??? Are you blind, that you don't see the similarity in the dance? There's so many elements in her song that are exactly from Euphoria. Watch both live perfomances at the same time, maybe then you will see that there's something strange going on... report to the moderator

    Kai

Im just so tired of people who complain, that Tanja-Amazing is a copy of Loreen-Euphoria...This calls jelousy. If you think a bit,all the pop songs are same, because of the beat. And anyway then we can say Loreen euphoria is a copy song of One Direction-Stole my heart,go listen and you will see the sound is exactly the same :)) And so what if she is barefeet on the stage like loreen was, same was with last year winner :) report to the moderator

This isn't a rip-off of Loreen. She is dancing like Pink from her song Try. Not Loreen. Loreen's song is an average pop song, any song would sort of sound like it. And maybe she liked a part of the song and used the beat a little? Who said there was anything wrong with that?

This is what I call a lost chance for Estonia! Among the candidates, the beautiful magnetism of Sandra Nurmsalu had the ingredients to be the real BIG THING in this contest. She has the face, the voice, the figure and the song, WHAT A SONG. So close to the Estonian spirit and so full of high quality aspects.
BUT, Estonians decided to put another less powerful version of Loreen's Euphoria in the contest, just like Germany tried to do last year with Cascada (and we all know what the result has been).
Bad choice, Estonia, very bad choice. report to the moderator

I¨m trying to like it but I can't... Who is not gonna think of Loreen? I know the song is not as good as Euphoria and you can't really compare - they are different! But with this DANCE she is just a copy cat to me and I don't like that - It's the only thing I see when i watch Tanja... report to the moderator

A weird combination of ''Euphoria'',''You'' and ''Glorious''!!!!!!!!
Absolutely will not repeat the 1st place as in 2001,the last time that the contest was in Copenhagen.
Sandra should go!! report to the moderator

I like it :-D Yes it reminds me (with the dance) alot about Loreen. However it´s a very different song and I´m so happy she won.
Funny Estonia won the eurovision in 2001 - perhapse they can do it once again. report to the moderator

It's indeed a copy of Loreen... still it's a very nice song and not a b-thing of Euphoria. Not as strong ofcourse but still nice, !!!
Although i wonder if she really can sing and dance that way...because Loreen was smart enhough not to put so many dance into it...she did make her moves not that big...i'm a bit concerned she will get out of breath...A copy . Yes !!
Bit still better a nice copy than a bad song....and we have this year a lot tof them... report to the moderator
