Eurovision 2017 to hit the silver screen across France

29 March 2017 at 13:00 CEST
The 2017 Eurovision Song Contest is to be broadcast on the 'silver screen' across France for the first time. The Grand Final, which takes place on Saturday 13th May, is due to be screened in cinemas, offering a brand new experience for viewers in the country.

Whilst many cinemas in Europe have screened the Eurovision Song Contest live, this is the first time that a nationwide broadcast will take place in France. The Eurovision Song Contest is experiencing a revival in popularity in the country after Amir achieved France's best placing in over a decade in Stockholm. Last year more than five million people in France tuned in for the Grand Final.

Edoardo Grassi, Head of Delegation for France, said: "Last year our aim was to put the Eurovision Song Contest back on the public radar in France. It's the biggest live show in the world and everyone deserves the chance to experience it as if they were there live in Kyiv. The cinematic experience allows those who cannot travel to have a live experience only a few miles from home. People will be able to bring their flags, tweet their reviews of the songs and vote from the comfort of their cinema seat!"

Caroline Got, Executive Director of France 2, said: "We at France 2 are proud to support this popular event with France 4 (which will be broadcasting the Semi-Finals). France Televisions is excited to offer this world premiere with CGR Cinemas Group and Warner Music France."
