”Lively and colourful”
Kirsten Siggaard, who together with Søren Bundgaard, represented Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest an impressive three times during the 1980s (1984, 1985 and 1988), is very much looking forward to performing at Dansk Melodi Grand Prix again.
”It is lively and colourful, and it is great to have a bit of nostalgia”, says Kirsten Siggaard.
On Saturday, when the Danish entry for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest is found, she hopes that Danes will focus on a good song. According to her, it was having that focus that meant that many people can still sing along to Danish Eurovision entries from the 1980s.
”We had a good song last year, and it can also be remembered” - Birthe Kjær
Eurovision should develop
”We had a good song last year, and it can also be remembered”,
Birthe Kjær also thinks that it can only be a good thing that the Eurovision Song Contest is evolving:
“On Saturday when we stand on stage to sing our old songs, it is because they have become classics. Just like one of the newer ones may become. It should definitely develop and evolve”.
As mentioned above Kirsten & Søren entered the Eurovision Song Contest for Denmark three times during the 1980s: in 1984 with the song Det' lige det, in 1985 with the song Sku' du spørg' fra no'en? and in 1988 with the song Ka' du se hva' jeg sa'? coming 4th, 11th and 3rd respectively.
In 1989 Birthe Kjær came third at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lausanne with the song Vi maler byen rød, achieving a very respectable 3rd place.
Rollo & King represented Denmark in 2001 when the contest was held on home-turf at the Parken stadium in Copenhagen. They came an impressive 2nd place close behind the winners Estonia.
Denmark's national final, Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will take place this Saturday at the Arena Fyn in Odense. As host-country, Denmark is automatically qualified for the Grand Final of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, which takes place at the B&W-Hallerne on Refshaleøen in Copenhagen on the 10th of May.
