Hanover, Germany -

Söhne Mannheims, LaBrassBanda, Cascada, Nica & Joe, Finn Martin, Ben Ivory - that's just six of the twelve acts that will compete in Unser Song für Malmö on 14 February. Find out who will join them on stage in Hanover!

After three successful Eurovision years for Germany, secured by two "new talents", Lena and Roman, the national selection is moving in another direction this year: Twelve well-known and experienced acts will fight for the ticket to Malmö.

Today, all but one of the German national final acts have been announced by NDR, the public broadcaster in charge of the Eurovision Song Contest in Germany:

  • Ben Ivory - The Righteous Ones
  • Betty Dittrich - Lalala
  • Blitzkids mvt. - Heart On The Line
  • Cascada - Glorious
  • Finn Martin - Change
  • LaBrassBanda - Nackert
  • Mobilée - Little Sister
  • Nica & Joe - Elevated
  • Die Priester feat. Mojca Erdmann - Ave Maris Stella
  • Saint Lu - Craving
  • Söhne Mannheims - One Love

The line-up includes several famous names. One of them, Söhne Mannheims is a group of German soul musicians, one of them being Xavier Naidoo, who was also juror in Unser Star für Baku, the German national final 2012. Cascada has sold more than 30 million records - Everytime You Touch was one of the top hits of the dance act.

But not only big stars get their chance, NDR also did their best to present a huge variety of styles in the show. LaBrassBanda, for example, is famous for their mix of traditional Bavarian brass music with rock and funk - the title of their national final entry means "naked" in Bavarian dialect.

Another mix of styles is represented by Nica & Joe, with Nica being a pop singer, and Joe a classical vocalist. Mobilée combines instrumental music in an innovative way, using accordion, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, and chimes.

Die Priester feat. Mojca Erdmann promise an even more eclectic mix, presenting a pop version of a medieval Catholic church chant. Mojca Erdmann is a star sopranist - she already performed at the Salzburg Festival as well as at the Met in New York.

Of course, there will be plenty of main-stream pop and rock too, both modern and nostalgic. The remaining 12th act will be known just before Christmas. The songs will be presented by NDR and the collaborating radio channels closer to the date of the final.

Apart from the show format, the voting was also adjusted in the German final: This time, the votes of the TV viewers and radio listeners will be combined with the verdict of an expert jury.

Of course, the twelve competing acts won't be the only reason to tune into the German final: Two of the most recent Eurovision winners, Lena and Loreen, will also perform during the show.

The German national final Unser Song für Malmö will be broadcast live from the TUI Arena in Hanover on Thursday, 14 February, starting at 20:15 CET.

The best option is Blitzkids mvt. Cascada's song is just the old and worn Eurovision formula. A dramatic song with some techno punch. Don't select her, please!!! report to the moderator

I hope that Betty Dittrich wins the German national competition. Her song "La La La" is a german-speaking fresh and happy song in the style of the 60ies/70ies. I think it would be absolutely unique at the ESC in Malmö.
And in addition Betty is swedish, she even comes originally from near Malmö.

I really hope that this cute swedish girl will represent us in Malmö.
GO BETTY GO!! report to the moderator

by not knowing the songs - i hope for LaBrassBanda!
they're so unbelievable cool and have so much fun on stage... hopefully they have a good partysong - with them all can happen - first or last! ;-) this is definatelly a performance that is far away from all others and represent the south of germany!

i like also blitzkids mvt. - really good style in music...

but please no söhne mannheims, die priester or cascada - i don´t think they have the best song for ESC...

but after all - i hope the best will win and hopefully they make a good performance in malmö report to the moderator

Well ok Cascada is international known, but LaBrassBanda could surprise many of you :).
They sing in Bavarian, play their instruments themselfs and live they are rocking EVERY stage :D.

Might be worth a look on youtube :). Songs like Bierzelt, Marienkäfer, Tubissimo ... i would not be surprised if Cascada or LaBrassBanda will make the race in Germany. report to the moderator

We don’t know the songs yet, so it’s natural to say who is the favorite just by reading the names of the artists. However I can’t say that Cascada is my favorite just because they are best known internationally. I think it really depends on the song. I also think that it won’t be that easy (like the most of you might suppose) for Cascada, they aren’t that popular in Germany than they are in the UK for example. I must say that even though it’s not my taste of music, the singer (Natalie Horler) is an awesome singer and they surely know how to carry an audience.

I just listened to some songs of the other artists and really liked the style of Betty Dittrich, Ben Ivory, Blitzkids mvt. and LaBrassBanda. report to the moderator

WOW. Really when I read Cascada my face was like: " :O You're jockin'... and then OMG! Cascada in German final!!!! ♥" I didn't expected that an artist like her wanted to participate in Esc, cause she has a big career.
I follow her since Everytime we touch.
I don't know the other artists. But surely Natalie Horler (Cascada) will be my number one in this NF and I want her to win!
GO CASCADA!! ♥ Wish u all the best.
And Germany, plz don't fail me! report to the moderator

A really diverse mix of artists representing essentially all musical genres. Can't wait to hear Cascada - Glorious, after her worldwide success 'evacuate the dance floor' song. Die Priester feat. Mojca Erdmann - Ave Maris Stella (one of two songs available on YouTube), WOW!! EPIC SONG. A haunting choral and opera opening develops into a captivating orchestral pop-opera chorus, before ending in the lone voice of soprano Mojca Erdmann.

To NDR, a live performance of Mobilée - Little Sister for a radio station was posted online (YouTube) in April 2012, wouldn't this breach Eurovision rules, where songs cannot be released before September 1 2012 for Eurovision 2013. report to the moderator
