Espoo, Finland -

An amazing show just concluded in the North of Europe. Finland held UMK, its national final for the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest, in Espoo. A very open competition it was, with many favourites battling it out until the votes of the audience came in and gave the victory to Krista Siegfrids with the song Marry Me!

The Finnish final UMK 2013 just took place at the Barona Arena in Espoo hosted by Anne Lainto and Ile Uusivuori. The winning song was chosen by the votes of an expert jury and the TV audience in Finland. The expert jury consisted, as every previous week, of Aija Puurtinen, Redrama, Tomi Saarinen and Toni Wirtanen.

This was the running order of the acts and songs that participated in what could be described as one of the most interesting finals of the year (click on the songs to watch the performance from the final):

  1. Arion - Lost
  2. Elina Orkoneva - He's Not My Man
  3. Lucy Was Driving - Dancing All Around the Universe
  4. Krista Siegfrids - Marry Me
  5. Last Panda - Saturday Night Forever
  6. Mikael Saari - We Should Be Through
  7. Great Wide North - Flags
  8. Diandra - Colliding Into You

After the songs were performed the expert jury gave its results which, as expected, were very close:

  • Krista Siegfrids 38 points
  • Mikael Saari 38 points
  • Great Wide North 38 points
  • Arion 35 points
  • Diandra 32 points
  • Elina Orkoneva 30 points
  • Lucy Was Driving 25 points
  • Last Panda 24 points

So it was up to the televote to decide the winner of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, The Contest Of New Music, abbreviated as UMK 2013. They shortlisted Diandra, Mikael Saari and Krista Siegfrids and the presenters announced that Diandra was third. Then it was time to announce the winner between Mikael and Krista. And the one who gets the ticket for Malmö is... Krista Siegfrids!

Congratulations to Krista for the victory and a great performance of the uptempo number Marry Me. Krista Siegfrids is an energetic and beautiful bombshell you simply cannot listen to with a sour face! She’s a bubbly personality and a performer who wants her music with good moods and feelings.

This year's participation of Finland is a very good idea and the song is good! Some other songs reminiscent of the time but I do not mind - has a very good listen!! report to the moderator

I love this song so much, I don't think it will win nor will I vote for it but it has a great beat and a catchy tune. The only thing I worry about is Krista's pronunciation in the chorus. When she says "Do it for you, for you, for you..." it sounds, in her accent, like certain profanity. This is something she needs to be careful of! Best of luck Finland :) x report to the moderator

I'm sorry,It sounds just like a teenager's song.I din't think that Finland would choose this kind of song,I miss something like Lordi or traditional music...Finland has brilliant artists, but this is not the best...Anyway...good luck! report to the moderator

I agree with TooT TooT below.

I was really looking forward to see what Finland would be offering up this year and I'm not disappointed. Its probably my current favourite song thats been announced from the competing nations so far.

To me, Eurovision embodies, fun, freedom, happiness, partying and of course a great strong voice to deliver the goods....and this ticks all the boxes for what I look for at the ESC. Has no one told you guys that its time to celebrate because its Eurovision?! And what better way to celebrate! You can keep your dreary ballads.

Go Krista!!! report to the moderator

I don't think her entry was the best in the competition (my personal favorite was Great Wide North all along - what a name!) but I'm satisfied. She'll surely give one hell of a show! It was already good in the national final but some changes need to made since she had too many backup dancers...
What I like the most, however, is that we've finally chosen an entry which could compete with the likes of Sweden :))) Krista is a performer, for the most part. report to the moderator

good choice finland! i like this song and i'm playing it many times! the lyric is a little cheap but the performance is really good, full of energy. i think that was not bad choice
Mikael Saari's song was great and no dout is a strong ballad and if they picked him up, for sure they would be in top 10. i love his song & performance but after twice ballad in a row finland needs a new style and marry me is a good one! report to the moderator

Great song! Finally, no boring ballads from Finland. Mikael's song was good, but good for ending titles of some movie like newzealander The Piano.

    @michemiche from Sweden
You can not blame jurors for "promotion". As you can see results of jurors' voting, (Krista Siegfrids 38 points, Mikael Saari 38 points, Great Wide North 38 points), it is finnish viewers who exactly choose the winner. So blame finnish people that they don't share your music tastes :P report to the moderator
