Loreen rocks the European charts

Rather unsurprisingly Loreen's Euphoria has been dominating the European iTunes charts since her victory on Saturday, including the UK!

Loreen from Sweden won the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday night where she had a very convincing victory with a massive 372 points, not far short of Alexander Rybak's record set in 2009 for Norway.

Since then, her upbeat club inspired number Euphoria has literally dominated the charts in most European countries from Austria to the United Kingdom. The latter is very significant in that it is the first time since Gina G in 1996 that a Eurovision Song Contest entry has reached the number one spot in the UK, proving the song's versaltility and universal appeal.

Currently (according to iTunes), Euphoria is at number one in the following countries:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Ireland
  • Luxembourg
  • The Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • United Kingdom

Loreen is also in the top 10 in France and Portugal.

Check out Loreen's winning performance from the Baku Crystal Hall in Azerbaijan on Saturday night:

Next year the Eurovision Song Contest will be arranged in Sweden with the city and venue to be confirmed at a later date. However, during the winner's press conference on Saturday, the Swedish Head of Delegation, Christer Björkman, confirmed that Sweden would hold the contest in 2013.

Stay tuned to Eurovision.tv for further information about next year's show!

Loreen's Euphoria peaked at number 15 (so far) on the Australian iTunes chart, and has debuted at number 36 on the official ARIA singles chart. It is getting a lot of radio play too. report to the moderator

Its a real pitty the Song isnt geting respected as it should do here in the UK by radio stations just becuase its a eurovision entry they turn their noses up to it, it be different if loreen was American I'm sure and had nothing to do with Eurovision, the only time they have played the entry is when they have to when going through the charts but thats about it, in the UK the radio stations still bother to play old american singles which have to poision our charts, its a shame UK ignore european tallents such as Loreen , Eric Saade , MaNgA, Hadise, Alexander Rybak, Ralf Mackenbach, Nina, Roman Lob, Safura Azerbiajan 2010, Ell and Niki, Ivi Adamou, Dima Billan. It Realy anoys me! report to the moderator

Thats is not reason why its isnt no1. in the UK charts, the reason is becuase as the radio stations are eurovision snobs over here they wont play loreens entry weekly, so for sucess in the charts she's dependent on people who have seen her entry through the ESC and online. If she was American and her song not attached to eurovision it would be a complete different story, she'd be sailing the charts at no1., the Swedish would be insulted to know who was above loreen in our charts, to be honest they dont even deserve to be that high, and the only reason they are high is becuase they are not eurovision and are black American. It's time the majority of UK stopped being snobbish to Eurovision and actaully see that the contest has changed! report to the moderator

This is the best song in the history of the contest. This outclasses all previous entries by far in terms of quality and success. report to the moderator

This is the best song in the history of Eurovision, Despite getting very little airplay here, the song is currently #2 in the midweeks and #1 in various countries thorughout Europe. report to the moderator

Found and downloaded the song from iTunes here in Canada, I've listened to it multiple times since then. It really grows on you, reminds me so much of the dance music I listened to as a teenager

Loreen is amazing, I wish her nothing but the best report to the moderator

sorry to say but she doesn't ''rock'' or ''hit'' the charts here ! but it should because the song deserves it so much............................ report to the moderator

She is actually no 1 in a total of 23 countries now! That is the most successful and the quickest run up in charts in the whole eurovision history. Never has an entry gained 23 no ones, never has the whole Europe loved a Eurovision song that much. More in my blog eurovision.ratata.fi report to the moderator

ADRIAN_VINCENT, why do we have to respect what you think is true (and most of us don't think is true) when you don't respect what most people think is true? THAT is democracy, and not what you say about respecting your opinion when you don't respect the other's ones. So think before you write. report to the moderator

Loreen wasn't my fave song in ESC2012 , but she had the best song according to all the other people that voted- and they cant be wrong! Im just really happy that the whole world is going to hear the Eurovision winner and maybe tune in next year.

Who knows.... the last Eurovision act to become a huge glabal sensation was ABBA , also from sweden...

....GOOD LUCK ON YOUR CAREER LOREEN report to the moderator

Loreen's song is very strong and it is going to stay on charts during the summer...

But I cant compare her with Gina. Because Gina G is a Legend!! Even though her song wasnt ranked fairly, we can still dance with her Just A Little Bit at clubs in Melbourne... report to the moderator

karbcn 1975, does it say anywhere that a song has to sound Scandinavian/ Slavic/Nordic/ British/Italian or whatever?

Like you said, it's a Song Contest. It's about finding the best Song ,period. It doesn't have to sound like the country it's representing. OK if you think it should sound like that, but that doesn't make it less of a winner just because it sounds American or British or wahtever.
A good song is a good song, no matter how it sounds like.
It's a song contest, not a Culture contest.

And Adrian_Vincent, we have accepted that Italy and you didn't like it. So why can't you accept that it won despite of that?
You don't have to like it, but the majority did like it. ACCEPT IT! report to the moderator
