Lisbon, Portugal -

It was late night in most of Europe when Portugal announced the name of the winner of their Festival Da Canção 2014. After a one year absence in the Eurovision Song Contest the country will be represented by Suzy with the song Quero Ser Tua.

The Portuguese national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen, Festival Da Canção 2014, comprised one semi-final and the final, both held at the Convento do Beato in Lisbon. Ten composers were invited by RTP and they chose the performers for their songs. In the end, the following five made it to tonight's final (click on the title to watch the semi-final performance of the song):

  1. Rui Andrade - Ao Teu Encontro (Rui Andrade & Marc Paelinck)
  2. Catarina Pereira - Mea Culpa (Andrej Babic & Carlos Coelho)
  3. Zana - Nas Asas da Sorte (Paulo Abreu Lima e Jan Van Dijck)
  4. Raquel Guerra - Sonhos Roubados (Nuno Marques da Silva & Nuno Feist)
  5. Suzy - Quero Ser Tua (Como A Lua É Do Luar) (Emanuel)

After the round of televoting the results were announced in random order. First the top 3 songs were revealed:

  • Catarina Pereira - Mea Culpa
  • Suzy - Quero Ser Tua
  • Rui Andrade - Ao Teu Encontro 3rd

So Rui was declared 3rd while Suzy and Catarina were still waiting for the final result. They were taken to the stage for the final announcement and the winner was finally revealed... Suzy with the song Quero Ser Tua, lyrics and music by Emanuel, just like in 2007 with Sabrina's Dança Comigo.

Suzy will represent Portugal in the First Semi-Final of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest on the 10th of May in Copenhagen, the same place where they made their first appearance in the contest 50 years ago.

I think this song is too Lambada for my taste, but I always want Portugal at the finals no matter what, I hope this time I will be able to vote for Portugal in the semis, I was upset I couldn't make a call for awesome Filipa - Vida minha. Good luck, amigos report to the moderator

I'm I'm Portuguese and I'm going to the Eurovison Song Contest this year in Copenhagen. I wish I could go feeling proud of the Portuguese song instead of embarrassed. Unfortunately, this is the case. :( In general, Portugal feels the same way. This song was not legitimately selected. That's more than obvious. report to the moderator

Well, i can lol you back as much as you'd like! But for the sake of other people reading: 1 - I voted for Rui (semi final and final) 2 - to me any of the songs in our national final besides this one had their own merits and could be chosen 3 - in 4 days this song was already mocked in 2 different radio shows and one on TV 4 - If you go to RTP s facebook you ll see more than a 1000 complaints (i'll say its about 5 to a 100 the people who argue in favor of this song) 5 - "Cantora Suzy - eurovisao 2014" Has something like 100 likes on Facebook (lol) 6 - If you go to portuguese news web sites, Facebook and other places on the www it s pretty obvious that you find many portuguese who deslike the song (maybe you live under a rock?) 7 - I really have nothing against Susy. I Just dont like cheaters and I and many other people dispute these "results". If Susy won fair and square, an external audit of the televote results would stop all complaints. That' s all I want. report to the moderator

Wow I though ESC was supposed to unite Europe, but judging from peoples reactions that's not the case is it. It's a song calm down a bit, and what happens if Suzy wins the contest. Everyone is going to celebrate aren't they. I don't know much about Portugal but I do know that I didn't hate the song. report to the moderator

Eurovision wouldn't be Eurovision without at least some controversy.
If you do not like the music, you can give your support to another song the other country.
When you said that "everyone in Portugal is complaining, people from young age to old." are you refer to Catarina's facebook fans????? LOL LOL LOL
Just in case Portugal has more people that like the song and a lot of european citizens that like our song :) report to the moderator

I didn't participate on the voting (I'm not a fan of televoting - specially with the intent to make profit from people's money) and I didn't even saw the show, so you may take my opinion knowing this in advance.

But... the song that was declared a winner is simply awful it has poor content, doesn't say anything about the country (except, maybe for the kind of bad pop folk style) and the singer's interpretation is so so SO SAD... it's hard for me to believe that in Portugal none of the other songs were better than this one. report to the moderator

Its great that people in Argentina know so much about what the portuguese like. I for one know nothing about Argentina (Leo Who?). Seriously, everyone in Portugal is complaining, people from young age to old. The song was mocked in rádio and TV already. I did not vote for Catarina but I'm sure she had the winning song. An audit of the votes would clear things but our TV station is silent... report to the moderator

People are talking of Catarina Pereira like she was Adele or Rihanna with her latest song. Get real: Mea culpa was horrible or not better than Quero ser tua, at least. I watched the whole show and Suzy had the catchiest song (I knew she was going to win after I watched her performance). No need to make a drama or suggest weird and obscure conspiracy theories. report to the moderator
