Sweden presents half of Melodifestivalen 2014 acts
Stockholm, Sweden -

16 out of the 32 participants in Melodifestivalen 2014 have just been presented. A press conference hosted by the Swedish Broadcaster, SVT, just took place in Stockholm introducing the line-up of the first two semi-finals of the Swedish national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest.

One of the most popular national finals for the Eurovision Song Contest, the Swedish Melodifestivalen, will take place between February and March next year comprising four semi-finals, a second chance round and the big final in the Friend's Arena in Solna, Stockholm.

Minutes ago the artists of the first two semi-finals have been announced along with the titles of their songs and the names of its composers and authors.

First semi-final

The line-up, in alphabetical order of title, for the first semi-final which will take place on the 1st of February in Malmö looks like this (composers & authors in brackets):

The second semi-final will take place on the 8th of February in Linköping featuring the following line-up:

Among the artists names we find 2005's Eurovision Song Contest winner for Greece, Helena Paparizou and the Swedish performer in the same contest, Martin Stenmarck. Sylvester Schlegel was a member of the band The Ark which represented Sweden in Helsinki in 2007.

Also two runner-ups from Melodifestivalen: Sanna Nielsen, 2nd in 2008 and YOHIO, who came close to victory this year. The multi-ethnic group Panetoz scored a big hit with Dansa Pausa in 2012. Little Great Things include Charlie and Felix Grönvall, the grandsons of Benny Andersson who won the Eurovision Song Contest with ABBA in 1974, nearly forty years ago when the contest takes place.

"It has been a pleasure, easy and fun to put this year's line-up! There has been a great creativity among the nation's authors and artists. The range of the line-up is wide and dynamic", says Christer Björkman, executive producer of Melodifestivalen 2014.

I hope YOHIO will win this year. Was really disappointed when he didn't win last year and I think Sweden shot themselves in the foot by having the juries votes weight more than the audiences. report to the moderator

Interesting, I guess the song "Survivor" that Helena Paparizou will sing must be a really good one for her to take part in Melodifestivalen. I really hope it's a good one and not a dissapointment, we just have to wait and see how it all turns out... report to the moderator

Looking forward to Helena Paparizou's return to Melodifestivalen after performing Eric Saade's 'Popular' at Melodifestivalen 2012. YOHIO (runner up at Melodifestivalen 2013) will also be the one to watch for 2014. Another group to watch is J.E.M, from X-Factor (Sweden) fame; who have a song by ESC winning writers Thomas G:son and Peter Boström. The triple Melodifestivalen winning songwriter Fredrik Kempe also returns with possibly 3 songs. report to the moderator

How many times can Sanna Nielsen compete with the same song and sound? She should realise that her "modern schlager" sound doesn't really work anymore, music has changed through the years.

Looking forward to Elena Paparizou though. It's been a long time we've heard anything from her, so excited to hear about that.
An according to rumours from those involved she has a really good song too, so fingers crossed! report to the moderator
