Kyiv, Ukraine -

The month of December will be unusually busy this year when it comes to national selections for Eurovision. Not only Lithuania, Albania, Belarus and Switzerland but also Ukraine will be among the "early birds" - their national final will be broadcast on 23 December, and entries can be submitted until the day before.

As the Ukrainian public broadcaster NTU has announced, the first stage of the national selection has started already on 1 October with an open call for entries, with the submission deadline being 21 December. Songs in any language can be entered, provided the artists can guarantee that they do not participate in any other country's national selection. They also have to agree to cover all the expenses of their participation in the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest themselves in case of winning the Ukrainian national final.

The next stage of the selection will already commence on 10 December. From that date, castings will take place behind closed doors, where the applying artists will have to prove their capabilities in terms of singing and performing in front of an expert jury.

In the end, 20 acts will receive a ticket for the national final, which will take place already on 23 December. During that show, a 50/50 combination of televoting and the verdict of a seven-member expert jury will determine the Ukrainian representative for Malmö.

Their timeline doesn't make sense. You can submit a song up until Dec 22, but the contest is the next day on the 23rd. However, back on Dec 10 they do a behind doors screening of the artists. What's the purpose of the Dec 10 event, if you can submit it up till the day before the contest? report to the moderator

This is good news! Although I must say Ukrainian and Albanian songs never got truly finalized until the very end, which is kinda frustrating... report to the moderator

It seems like a lot of countries are jostling for position at the front of the line this year. I don't get why, though. For the past two years, the Swiss were first and they came in last place in 2011 and didn't even advance in 2012, so it's odd to me that more countries would want to go earlier, especially countries not known for their winning records, like Belarus, Lithuania and Albania. Well, if anything, I hope we get some good stuff out of it that we can enjoy till May (and hopefully not tire of it!). report to the moderator

Only damn, this is the most busy December in the history of the Eurovision, a total of 6 finals: Belarus, Belgium, Lithuania, Switzerland, Albania & Ukraine, I don't remember a year when we last had this many finals so early, that's just awesome, and fantastic.
Sadly I', gonna miss out on the Lithuanian, Albanian & Ukrainian final, cause I might be in Romania, and celebrate Christmas, and my grandmom don't have internet connection, so Good Luck to those 3 countries, mostly to Ukraine, like C'mon Ukraine, you used to be 1 of my favorite countries from 2004-2009, then since 2010, Ukraine has been bad in my opinion. report to the moderator

Ukraine is one of my favourite country in Eurovision, their 2008 entry (“Shady Lady”) was the best Ukrainian entry for me…! But their 2004, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 entries was also good! Good Luck to them in 2013! :) report to the moderator
