Helsinki, Finland -

After six preliminary shows tonight it's time for Finland to decide. Eight fabulous acts have reached the last stage of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu but only one of them will represent Finland at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contet in Malmö. The final of UMK - The Contest For New Music – will start at 20:00 CET and you can watch the show here with us on our Web TV Player!

The Finnish final UMK 2013 takes place at the Barona Arena in Espoo tonight hosted by Anne Lainto and Ile Uusivuori. The winning song will be chosen by the votes of an expert jury and the TV audience in Finland. The expert jury consists, as every week, of Aija Puurtinen, Redrama, Tomi Saarinen and Toni Wirtanen.

This is the running order of the acts and songs participating in what could be described as one of the most interesting finals for Finland (click on the songs to watch a performance from the semi-finals):

  1. Arion - Lost
  2. Elina Orkoneva - He's Not My Man
  3. Lucy Was Driving - Dancing All Around the Universe
  4. Krista Siegfrids - Marry Me
  5. Last Panda - Saturday Night Forever
  6. Mikael Saari - We Should Be Through
  7. Great Wide North - Flags
  8. Diandra - Colliding Into You

The acts

Arion plays melodic and symphonic metal with clean vocals. These 17 and 18 year-old incredibly skillful musicians combine heavy sounds with rare soulfulness. Elina Orkoneva, a 23-year old singer has recently graduated from the Sibelius Academy of Music. Her music could be described as modern pop with influences from the American popular music of the 1950’s and 1960’s.

Lucy Was Driving took part in UMK in order to be able to perform their melodic pop-rock to bigger audiences and to play around the world. World, meet the Finnish equivalent to Fall Out Boy! Krista Siegfrids is an energetic and beautiful bombshell you simply cannot listen to with a sour face! She’s a bubbly personality and a performer who wants her music with good moods and feelings.

Last Panda represent the northern parts of Finland in this year’s UMK. This band’s music has no boundaries: you can hear a variety of influences all the way from the golden age of disco to catchy modern punk. Mikael Saari is a charismatic singer-songwriter who draws inspiration from such things as English indie-folk. The music of this 24-year old artist has a strong emotional resonance.

Four brothers, one band, one mission – that’s Great Wide North. Hailing from the West Coast of Finland, this folk-influenced rock band was formed in 2009. Earlier this year they became the Finnish national champions in gospel music. The winner of the Finnish Idols in 2011, Diandra has a strong voice beyond her 18 years. Diandra has dreamt of being a professional musician since the age of 3 and it looks like her dream is no longer just a dream.

The spectacular show will also include performances by other top Finnish acts such as rising hip hop group Teflon Brothers featuring one of the finalists from UMK 2012, Stig, and an amazing ensemble of Finnish singers such as last year Eurovision Song Contest entrant Pernilla, Emma Salokoski and Suvi Teräsniska. The UMK judges will hit the stage as well, performing a brand new version of the Bomfunk MC’s 1999 megahit Freestyler with some fresh rapping by Redrama!

Watch the final of Finland on our Web TV Player starting at 20:00 CET!

Hope that all all my three favorites have worked on their performances ...

3d Mikael: I think he came across as rather pretentious, but I still think he deserves to be in the top three.
2nd Arion: These young guys need training in interacting with telly, but they have already showed that they can improve
1st Diandra: She has to convince me - either tonight or in the Eurovision semi.

Good Luck! report to the moderator

I think I'm going to watch the finish final, because they have better songs instead of Norway.

I hope for Diandra or Elina Orkoneva to win.

Good luck to Finland! report to the moderator

    (continued...)

Mikael Saari is my number one favourite. The song is touching, goes straight in, and leaves a lasting impression. It's a very different entry, and I feel it is the most likely entry to get points in ESC. Best song in UMK.
GWN is my number two favourite. A little U2, maybe, but that's a good thing. Sadly, the Finnish people are unlikely to vote for this.
Diandra is the one I feel will win the whole thing, and I won't be sad if she does, but there are many better songs to choose.

So, in order: 1) Mikael Saari 2) GWN 3) Elina Orkoneva 4) Diandra report to the moderator

Well, once again the night is here - the night when it's decided whether I should feel ashamed about my eurovision.tv username or not. :P A few views on tonight:

Arion has a good song, but the singer lacks charisma and there's something rather boring about the show. If the singer can step it up, I'd really like it. Now I feel like I should like it, but can't.
Elina Orkoneva is great. The song is good, but maybe a bit too nice. Still a breath of fresh air.
LWD has a good song with a good melody, but the singer doesn't cut it.
Krista is an excellent singer, but her song and show are terrible. Worst song of all 12 songs competing, and the stage show just makes me nauseous. I feel sorry for her - great singer, whose voice and attitude are wasted on the song. Please, don't.
Last Panda has energy, but nothing special. report to the moderator
